**Catcher’s family keeps mailing him weapons, from a combat exoskeleton to a bomber drone, because at age four an accident gave him Oripathy and doctors told him to stay in bed. To them he is still that kid.**

His files read like a sitcom until the last page. The most dependable member of Op Team Z7 can remember a flashlight someone forgot three missions ago, files every report on time, and quietly cooks for a squad that cannot. He also keeps getting called down to logistics to sign for packages that alarm the staff. The reason sits in a yellowed hospital record from when he was four.

**How we checked this.** Everything below comes from Catcher’s profile records, voice lines and message threads in the official English localization, checked against the current game data on 20 October 2026\. Where we read between the lines, we say so.

## TL;DR - Key Points

* **The gifts:** his sister sent a U-47 Heavy Exoskeleton with a five-year warranty for his birthday. His eldest brother sent a new TGCC bomber drone “as a surprise.” Earlier gifts include TGCC prototypes and Seš’qa witchcraft items.
* **The paperwork:** every one of those needs a hazardous materials declaration, he keeps filing them late, and his captain has warned that one more miss gets him blacklisted by the arsenal.
* **The reliable one:** HR says he has never been absent and always reports on time. Fluorite calls him “our omni-butler.”
* **The kid who corrected his teacher:** at 15 he found problems in eight of his instructor’s eleven courses. The instructor later credited him for his career.
* **The accident:** at four, an Originium device failure gave him acute Oripathy. His doctor told him to stay in bed and avoid any strain.
* **The answer:** he rebuilt his body beyond medical advice, but his family still sees “that kid who couldn’t sit up without help.” The gifts are their way of keeping him safe.

## Who Is Catcher?

Catcher is a Perro operator of Endfield Industries, born August 16\. His ID name is **Ruy van Catcher**. He grew up in a military family in the Civilization Band and joined **Op Team Z7** after Captain [Akekuri](https://endfieldhub.org/blog/akekuri-lore-backstory-shiba-momiji-family-endfield) applied to bring him in. His medical file lists him as Oripathy positive, with “Standard” ratings across the board, and the Medical Division adds that his results “actually astounded us” given his history.

His own introduction is modest: “My role is giving the team cover and logistics support. I specialize in defensive operations and I’m good with the blade.” In combat he is a 4-star Physical Defender with a greatsword, built around shields and protecting the squad. His kit and stats are on his [operator page](https://endfieldhub.org/characters/catcher). He is voiced in English by Kevin Andrew Rivera.

## Z7’s Omni-Butler

HR’s summary calls him “the most reliable operator of Z7.” He has never been absent, always hands in reports on time, has no vices and works well with others. The same file flags a problem: he “often forces himself to take on operational duties and goals that were not originally assigned to him,” and HR advises checking with Akekuri before giving him tasks.

His teammates’ notes are funnier. [Fluorite](https://endfieldhub.org/blog/fluorite-lore-backstory-bounty-politician-endfield) suspects he writes a review after every operation and rereads the old ones, “because I don’t think any ordinary person could remember that they forgot to bring a flashlight three operations ago.” [Estella](https://endfieldhub.org/blog/estella-lore-sad-backstory-landbreaker-camp-endfield) says his face almost never changes, except the time she accidentally threw a cream cake she had left lying around for a week onto his greatsword. That was the first time she saw him frown. [Antal](https://endfieldhub.org/blog/antal-lore-backstory-bad-jokes-endfield) worries about his social skills but decides he will be fine, because he roasts fowl fillets as well as Antal’s grandmother.

His own voice lines confirm all of it. When promoted, he hands over “mission prepwork for the … next ninety days.” Asked to pick between a handheld welder, an antigrav modulator and a dustproof mask, he decides to bring everything.

## The Birthday Exoskeleton

His third profile record opens in the logistics unloading area. A huge package addressed to Catcher sits next to a facility scale model Andre bought. The sender is in Seš’qa, and routine inspection found that someone had cast anti-tracking Originium Arts on it. Catcher explains that it is from his older sister, who “has a habit of applying protective measures given the nature of her work.” The staff realize who she is: Cassandra of the Mist, the famous bodyguard of Seš’qa merchants.

Inside is the latest civilian-grade **U-47 Heavy Exoskeleton**, and a button. The staff try to stop him pressing it until there is more space. He presses it anyway, and it plays a recorded message. His sister calls him “Ruy, baby,” apologizes that work stops her from coming to his birthday, says the exoskeleton is “far cooler than the DIY alloy greatsword that broder gave you last time,” and mentions she applied for a five-year warranty because he goes on so many field missions.

Catcher’s review is one line: “At least it’s better than the Octo-Herbal Tisane Mega Giftpack last year.”

## The Bomber Drone and the Hazardous Materials Form

In one message thread Catcher sends the Endmin a combat protocols proposal for Z7 and attaches the wrong file: an “Endfield Operator Personal Hazardous Materials Declaration Form.” When the Endmin asks whether he is transporting hazardous materials, he replies “Endmofistar,; dg/;ay \]f.” and explains that he knocked over his water bottle.

Then he confesses. His eldest brother, a military instructor in the TGCC, said he was sending a “surprise,” and it turned out to be one of the TGCC’s new bomber drones, contents “marginally volatile.” It keeps happening: “Some TGCC prototypes … few Seš’qa witchcraft items.” He has written home asking them to “dial back the ‘surprise factor,’” but nobody in the family thinks any of the gifts is dangerous. He keeps filing the forms late during ops prep, and Akekuri has warned that if he fails again, the arsenal will blacklist him.

When the Endmin jokes about sending a gift too, he answers “Endmin … you too…” and leaves for drills.

## The Kid Who Corrected His Instructor

His second profile record is an excerpt from _Those Not Remembered_, the autobiography of instructor **Luca Londi**. After leaving Juniper Security, Londi taught military basics at a youth training camp to pay for his sick father’s treatment. One student stood out: a thin, 15-year-old boy named Ruy whose parents had not wanted him to enroll.

Ruy attended eleven courses and “found problems” in eight of them, from small deviations in military poise to minor memory slips. Londi started rehearsing every class so the boy would not catch him out. When he finally asked why, Ruy pulled out a dog-eared copy of _How to Be a Proper Soldier? (Young Adults Edition)_ and said the manual was “the only fount of strength that’s kept me this far … I’ve been dreaming about this since I was nine.”

Londi credits those corrections with fixing his habit of rote memorization and getting him into an elite armed security program. Catcher remembers it differently in a voice line: he says he convinced his instructor “before the third drill session began.”

## Z7’s Squad Dad

Off duty, Catcher runs the squad like a parent. He tried his teammates’ cooking when he joined Z7 and, on day two, asked Instructor Lil’ Dodge for help, which earned him “several weeks of Training for Ensuring Survival in the Wilderness.” He keeps improving a wildlands stew from everyone’s feedback. He makes Higashinese snacks for Akekuri and pretends each batch is a coincidence, because she will not admit she loves them. When teammates ignore the captain’s orders to rest, he personally “escorts” them back to their cabins.

Akekuri sees the other side. She writes that he puts “the feelings and needs of others before his own,” and whenever he takes on extra work unasked, she quietly adjusts his next assignments so he does not overwork himself. Her own files add that he drank the coffee she made at every team meeting for two months before anyone found out he was allergic.

## Age Four: The Accident

His fourth profile record is a yellowed medical history. Patient: Ruy van Catcher, age 4, admitted August 15 to Browning Hospital in the Free City of Alloycarrot. Three hours earlier he had been injured by “an accidental Originium device failure,” with minor injuries to the neck. An hour after admission he was dizzy, weak in the legs and losing consciousness, and his muscle strength kept dropping. Diagnosis: acute Oripathy with complications.

Worth noticing: his birthday is August 16\. The record does not say the accident happened the day before his fifth birthday, but the dates sit side by side, and every gift in this story arrives on a birthday.

Three later logs track what came next. In the one from ten years ago, his physician, Dr. Raman Harrent, wrote that the Oripathy was under control but his strength was “far below average,” and that “any action that unnecessarily stresses your body might endanger your life.” Catcher remembers that time plainly: he could not lift a water canteen, the doctors kept telling his family to keep him inside, and to this day he dislikes the smell of iodine and peroxide.

## The Handbook and the Miracle

Six years ago, Dr. Harrent was warning him that his exercises “have far exceeded the levels I’ve recommended,” and asking that a family member or caretaker stay within ten yards whenever he trained. Two years ago, the doctor gave up arguing: “it is by ‘miracle’ … but also primarily your personal force of will and determination, that you have molded your body to its current standards.”

Catcher remembers his first walk in daylight after recovering: “It felt as though I was brought back to life.” He also calls himself “the least talented soldier of the family,” and says he woke two hours before his brother and trained three times as hard as his sister to make up for it.

In one message thread he takes extended leave to visit Dr. Harrent before the doctor retires and Browning Hospital relocates. “I need to thank him properly. And I want to let him know that I’m no longer that kid who could barely move out of bed.”

## Why His Family Still Sends Weapons

His sister’s birthday message says it out loud: “Papa and Mama never feared anything except you getting hurt by accident and ending up like last time.” She asks him to wear the exoskeleton on missions because “it’ll make Papa and Mama feel safer,” and signs off calling him “the baby broder I am always worried about.”

Catcher understands it. “I guess that Oripathy incident messed them up. But their protection … makes things complicated. Guess to them I’m still that kid who couldn’t sit up without help.” His parents were soldiers, his brother teaches in the TGCC and his sister escorts merchants for a living. They wanted the youngest to have a peaceful life. He chose otherwise: “I’d made up my mind when I took the sword and left my home that morning. I do not intend to look back.”

They have not fully made peace with it. When he visited home and told them what Z7 was really like, “they didn’t say much to that, except giving me a few rucksacks of local specialties.” Read that way, the exoskeleton and the drone are the same thing as the rucksacks: a family that cannot stop him going out, packing him something for the road.

## So Who Is Catcher?

A boy who was told to stay in bed for the rest of his life, clung to a soldier’s manual, and trained until his own doctor called it a miracle. He grew into the operator whose whole job is shielding everyone else, who remembers what you forgot and cooks so you do not have to. His family never quite caught up. Every birthday, a box arrives with a warranty and a hazard rating, from people who still see the kid in the hospital bed.

Catcher is one of five Z7 operators with a backstory on the site; start with his captain, [Akekuri](https://endfieldhub.org/blog/akekuri-lore-backstory-shiba-momiji-family-endfield). Every operator backstory is on the [Endfield lore hub](https://endfieldhub.org/lore).
