**The first thing Purrchena ever says to you is a dream she can’t finish.** _“My dream is to be … someone just like y…”_ She falls asleep in the middle of the sentence, and a recording plays her own job title back to the room until she wakes up embarrassed.

It plays as a joke, and most players left it there. But her six profile files, her Trust dialogue and a set of childhood diary entries tell a story the character select screen skips. She’s a foundling raised in an RV. Her dad built her first suit out of scrap so she wouldn’t get hurt when she collapsed. At some point a clean-cut stranger came to take her somewhere cold. And the letter that got her into Endfield was written by a pharmaceutical executive who calls her care “an investment in the future.”

This is that story, told in order, quoting the in-game English text.

**Short version first:** the Purrchena backstory in under two minutes, from our YouTube channel. The full story with every source follows below. More backstories are on the [Endfield lore hub](https://endfieldhub.org/lore).

## TL;DR - Key Points

* **Her real name is Rosalind.** The recommendation letter uses it all the way through. “Purrchena” is a media name that caught on after a rescue in a storm.
* **She was adopted.** Her mom found her in the wildlands on a supply run. Her parents aren’t Feline.
* **Her dad built the first suit** from a scrapped exo-skeleton wrapped in a plushie, so she could play outside without hurting herself when she passed out.
* **The Foundation took her in as patient and mascot at once.** Her diary remembers the handover as a cold, clean RV full of smiling strangers.
* **The letter behind her Endfield job is written by a drug company.** It mentions “valuable special cases” and rising “demand for pharmaceuticals” in the same breath as her rescue.
* **She has watched a patient vanish mid-sentence**, and describes it live on air before falling asleep on camera.
* **Nobody has seen what is under the suit.** Every time she’s asked, she dozes off.

## Who is Purrchena?

Purrchena, real name Rosalind, is a Feline operator from Arknights: Endfield and the Brand Ambassador for the Talos-II General Chamber of Commerce’s (TGCC) Ætherside Environmental Impact Syndrome Relief Foundation. She has an incurable form of Ætherside Syndrome that makes her fall asleep without warning. She is stationed at Endfield Industries as the liaison between Endfield and the TGCC on Ætherside relief.

That’s the file. Endfield HR assistant Martin Marvin Malen adds the part the file can’t: she’s exactly as sunny in person as she is on screen, she gets every operator in the room laughing, and she fell asleep in the middle of her own interview. He says the moment made him admire her: “Even while suffering from her own illness, she still chose to help other patients.”

The other half of her profile reads _Oripathy negative_. Whatever she has, it isn’t the illness Arknights players know. It comes from Talos-II itself.

## Found in the Wildlands

Ask about her family and Purrchena gives you a gag first. Why aren’t her parents Felines? _“It’s probably because my grandparents weren’t Felines.”_

The real answer comes a few Trust levels later, and she delivers it just as lightly:

> “Mom picked me up from the wildlands while delivering supplies in her RV… They’d often spend time with me counting stars and playing games.”

She was a foundling. Her mom drove supply runs, found a Feline child out in the wilds, and kept her. The recommendation letter confirms the adoption in passing, referring to “Ms. Rosalind’s adoptive father.”

The RV is the center of her childhood. She remembers it as huge: _“Mom drove it across the world with Dad and I. I’ve seen snowy mountains, deserts, forests, and giant lakes.”_ She helped load and unload cargo, and the workers paid her in sweets. Her first diary entry, dated November 2, Year 145, is about a convoy stop where the “uncles and aunties” upgraded the RV:

> “Now it has become so big and comfortable that even sleeping right on the floor feels great. No more worrying about getting hurt if I suddenly collapse.”

Read that one twice. A small child’s happiest diary entry is about a floor soft enough to fall on. The syndrome was already there, and the whole family had already built their life around it.

That same day someone gave her a snack called **exotic dried fin**. She wrote that when she grew up, she would buy enough to stuff the RV full. Hold onto that wish. It comes back at the end.

## The Machine Bone

In May of Year 146 her dad went “treasure hunting” and came back with what she called a machine bone. Once he fixed it up, he told her, she’d be able to go out and play with the other kids.

The June 23 entry is the saddest in the set:

> “The machine bone did not seem to like the rain. It just stood there in the rain and stopped moving. Luckily the other kids who came along all had umbrellas and stayed with me in the rain to wait for mom and dad. But I don’t really remember what happened after that. I think I had a dream. I dreamed I was riding a flying burdenbeast and went to so many places. When I woke up, mom was holding me and crying for some reason. Dad seemed to be blaming the machine bone. I tried to comfort mom, but she only cried harder. I hate falling asleep…”

The suit failed, she collapsed in the rain, and a group of children stood over her with umbrellas until the adults arrived. She doesn’t know how long she was out. She only remembers a nice dream and her mother crying.

Years later, as an adult on Dijiang, she explains the machine bone to you as if it were a fun fact:

> “Dad built the first one when I was a little girl. He fixed up a scrapped exo-skeleton and wrapped it in a plushie to keep me safe in case I dozed off. That old suit was really buggy, but I still have it stashed in my La Fantoma apartment!”

So the fluffy mascot everybody hugs started as a father’s scrap-metal fix for his daughter’s collapses. She kept the broken one.

---

## The Clean, Cold RV

This is where the story turns, and she tells it across two diary entries from the summer of Year 146.

On July 16 the family is somewhere “they make movies,” her favorite place. Dad comes back with “a very neatly dressed uncle” who has to pick his way carefully through the RV. Mom is so happy she brings out the food they normally save for birthdays.

On August 20:

> “This RV was not like mom’s. It was very clean inside, with lots of metal boxes, cramped and cold. There were also a lot of uncles and aunties in white coats. They all smiled at me, but I did not feel happy at all. The uncle dad knew gave me a strange little box. I could hear mom and dad’s voices from it, but when I took the box apart, they were nowhere to be found…”

She had never seen a communication terminal. She heard her parents’ voices come out of a box, pulled it apart to find them, and found nothing inside.

Here’s our reading, and we think the text supports it. The neatly dressed uncle is H, who signs her recommendation letter. The letter says her adoptive father reached out to H, and the diary shows dad bringing a stranger home and mom celebrating as if help had finally come. From the parents’ side, this was the rescue. They’d found someone who could keep their daughter alive. From the child’s side, it was the day strangers put her in a cold room and gave her a box instead of her mom.

Her own adult version, in Trust 5, is gentler: _“Mom and Dad brought me to La Fantoma so I could receive treatment while serving as the Foundation’s mascot.”_ Treatment and mascot duty in one sentence. She has never separated them.

## The Letter From H

The letter that recommends her to Perlica is the most revealing document in her file, and it isn’t written by someone who loves her.

It’s signed **H, Representative of the Highburg Pharmaceuticals LLC Ætherside Syndrome Business Unit**, who is also President of the Relief Foundation. The charity’s president works for a drug company. The letter never treats that as a conflict of interest.

It does praise her, and sincerely. It recounts the rescue that made her famous (more below) and credits her experience treating patients without medication. Then, in the same paragraph, it says this:

> “I must admit, the relief foundation’s strategy of having a representative of the patients themselves drive the relief work has indeed proven effective. It has provided us with a large number of valuable special cases while also significantly increasing demand for pharmaceuticals and medical equipment from multiple drug companies.”

And about the girl H first met:

> “Her long bouts of irregular sleep had left her eyes vacant and her face gaunt… even if her Ætherside Syndrome did not worsen, her body would hardly have sustained her into adulthood. Out of humanitarian principles, and also as an investment in the future, we provided her with comprehensive medical care and educational support.”

Nothing in the letter says H is a villain. H probably saved her life, and the letter shows that too. But she’s also the best marketing a pharmaceutical business unit could ask for: a patient-mascot who brings in rare cases and drives up drug demand. The travel writer who meets her in La Fantoma notices the same tension from the other side. Purrchena won’t talk to the writer until she’s sure they aren’t a tabloid reporter digging into “whether the Ætherside Environmental Impact Syndrome Relief Foundation had signed any backroom deals with pharmaceutical companies.”

She knows people ask that question. She keeps working for the Foundation anyway, because the patients are real.

---

## The Storm and the Plank

The event that made her name happened on December 18, Year 146, only four months after the cold RV. It was her first rescue mission.

Her diary is breezy. Familiar teammates, a cramped RV, lots of laughing. Then a line of pure kid outrage: the Foundation’s directors decided it was too dangerous and banned her from missions at that level. _“I’m so pissed! The mission went perfectly, and it was not my fault the storm suddenly turned back.”_ The consolation was seeing her parents afterward. Then she adds, almost to herself: _“Hey, when was the last time I saw them anyway?”_

H’s letter tells the same mission from the adult side. A storm doubled back and trapped the rescue team and the patients in a cave, with almost no medical supplies because the plan had only been to relocate them. She kept the patients stable using what she’d learned treating them on the road with her parents. And when the storm was directly overhead and the RV blocking the cave mouth slid away, she grabbed a wooden plank and sealed the gap herself.

The media picked it up, and the name Purrchena spread across the Civilization Band.

She hates the heroic version. In Trust 2 she cuts it down: _“I didn’t hike across mountains with a victim on my back. Mom and I just gave him a lift to the hospital in our RV.”_

---

## Frontline Face-to-Face: The Patient Who Vanished

File 2 is a transcript of a live news broadcast from an Ætherside Syndrome medical center in northern La Fantoma, under emergency lockdown. The reporter, Dinah, asks Purrchena what happened.

First she checks whether kids are watching. Then she describes a patient whose back was covered in wounds that looked like knife slashes, and a doctor who touched one with Originium, _“and the wound just twisted and contorted.”_

Then she describes the lockdown itself:

> “Disintegration happens after a patient dies, but Ætherside Syndrome doesn’t. I was talking to him just a moment ago, and then in an instant he was… Thank goodness I was the only one in the isolation ward at the time.”

She never finishes the sentence. A patient she was talking to changed, or vanished, in an instant, and she was alone in the room with it.

Her explanation of what the syndrome could do to _her_ is the most unsettling passage in her file. Right now her symptom is sleep. But unprotected in a high-depth environment, she says, she might start flickering “like a person on a broken handyterm screen,” or there might be “another Purrchena, visible but intangible, waving and greeting everyone, while the real Purrchena lies as if asleep and cannot be roused.”

Her closing message to viewers is that the syndrome isn’t contagious and patients shouldn’t be treated like monsters. She falls asleep before she can finish the word “contagious.” The feed cuts to a beep, and Dinah moves on.

The Foundation’s own researcher calls the condition “less a disease in the traditional sense and more a unique phenomenon that manifests when Ætherside environments affect the human body.” That lines up with the wider mystery of the Ætherside covered in our [Foundation and Exiles lore breakdown](https://endfieldhub.org/blog/foundation-exiles-talos-ii-lore-endfield).

## The Beach

File 3 is the reason the sad parts hurt. It’s a preface from a travel guide, _Talos-II Beneath Our Feet_, written by a visitor to La Fantoma who first mistook her for a shop’s costumed mascot standing and staring at a dessert window.

She ends up guiding the writer around the whole city. She falls asleep mid-sentence, wakes up scratching her head and apologizing, and carries on. Then she takes the writer to the beach, and the crowd splits them up. The writer finds her again by following the circle of people gathering around her:

> “She was sitting on the sand, bobbing her head to the beat of the music, occasionally changing the expressions on her electronic face screen to startle the children climbing over her and playing along.”

When the kids have gone home, the writer sits down beside her. She’s asleep again, still swaying to the music. _“She must have been having a beautiful dream.”_

This is who she chooses to be. The snack jokes, the hugs, the shouted CAPITALS all over her [combat kit](https://endfieldhub.org/blog/purrchena-build-guide-free-defender-endfield) are a person deciding that since she can’t control when she disappears, she’ll make the time she’s awake count for other people.

## The Empty RV

The last diary entry is dated November 7, Year 151\. She’s on the road to Endfield, one day out. It has the same shape as the first one, and every detail has flipped:

> “This RV is completely empty, nothing in it at all. Oh, and today I ran into mom and dad. They were transporting supplies from La Fantoma to Valley IV. We took a photo together, so they can see me in the picture and not miss me too much. But even though mom’s RV is decorated exactly the same as when I was little, why does it feel like something has changed?”

Five years earlier the RV was so full of family and snacks she thought it could hold all of Talos-II. Now she travels in an empty one and meets her parents by chance on a supply route. She takes a photo _for them_, so they miss her less.

Her Dijiang line about the RV finishes the thought: _“I thought all the snacks on Talos-II would never fill my Mom’s RV… But her RV seems smaller now.”_

The RV didn’t shrink. She grew up and left it. And at her fourth promotion she lets the question show for one sentence: _“Sometimes, I think about what life would be like if I’d never left for La Fantoma with the Relief Foundation…”_ Then she shuts it down: no matter where she ended up, she’d still be the one lending a hand.

## What Is Under Purrchena’s Suit?

The game hasn’t shown it, and it plays that as a joke. Here’s everything the text actually tells you:

| Clue | Source | What it tells you |
| --------------------------------------------------------- | ------- | ---------------------------------------------- |
| “Purrchena is made of cotton candy! Hehe, just joking.” | Chat 4 | She dodges, then falls asleep before answering |
| Proctors “couldn’t pry my suit open” during an exam | Trust 4 | The suit locks shut, even in an emergency |
| A timed medicine dispenser, TGCC upgrades | Chat 3 | Her meds are delivered automatically inside |
| A cleaning system for dropped crumbs | Chat 3 | She eats inside the suit, and it’s very hot |
| “Bots like me don’t exist on Talos-II!” | Chat 2 | She’s a person, not a machine |
| Pre-recorded lines play when she sleeps | Chat 2 | The “electronic voice” is her own recordings |
| Six years of upgrades to her “personal protective device” | File 1 | The suit is medical equipment, not a costume |

So the plush is a medical device. Nobody has seen her face, and she likes it that way. The exam story also shows who she is: when the proctor fell and got hurt trying to open her suit, she handed in a half-finished paper to rush the proctor to the medical room. _“I could have topped the class.”_

## The Anger She Hides

There’s one topic that gets past the sunny persona: the Landbreakers of the Bonekrusher Clan, who expose themselves to Æther on purpose.

> “Their derangement is a classic symptom of Ætherside Syndrome… Why would they do that to themselves? Why do they get sick on purpose? With the very thing we’re fighting so hard to stop?”

She catches herself, asks if she’s being too serious, then doubles down: _“It’s making me so angry! Super angry!”_ For someone who has spent her life being carried by an illness she never chose, people walking into it willingly are the one thing she can’t laugh off.

Her combat defeat line carries the same weight in a different voice: _“It’s on me… I didn’t try hard enough to protect everyone. Next time, I… No, I won’t let this happen ever again.”_

---

## After Dijiang: The Dessert Party

Her three Dijiang message threads (**Purrchena’s ERROR TOAST!**, **Purrchena’s Nap Incident…** and **Purrchena’s Sweet Gathering!**) add the coda. Our summaries below come from the full client text, and the Endministrator replies quoted are the official English.

The Nap Incident starts as comedy. She fell asleep walking to the canteen at night, and her suit’s sleep mode (dark mouth, glowing eyes) terrified a new night-shift worker. Then it turns. She asks whether she has really helped anyone when there’s still no cure. The Endministrator’s answers are some of the kindest lines in the game: _“We may not have a cure for Ætherside Syndrome, but you’ve always found other ways to help them, Purrchena,”_ and _“And when they needed someone the most, you showed up right there for them.”_

Sweet Gathering closes the loop. She sets up a dessert spread in the canteen and admits she’d been thinking about her parents: the big RV, taking apart her first terminal to find them inside. Then she tells you she has three homes now, mom’s RV, her La Fantoma apartment and Dijiang, which she treats as a bigger RV that flies. She has stuffed it with snacks.

The Year 145 wish was to buy enough exotic dried fin to fill the RV. The endpoint of her story is a ship full of friends and snacks. That childhood wish did come true.

| Dec 18, Year 146 | Cave rescue in the storm; the name Purrchena spreads | Diary, File 1 |
| Years 147-151 | Treatment, schooling and mascot work in La Fantoma | File 1, Trust 1 |
| Nov 7, Year 151 | On the road to Endfield; the empty RV | Diary |

The dates check out. H’s letter calls the storm rescue “five years ago,” and a letter written late in Year 151 puts that at the end of Year 146, which is exactly when her diary records it. The letter’s “six years” of suit upgrades would start around Year 145 or 146, when her dad’s machine bone was still the suit.

## Sources and Method

Every quote here is from Purrchena’s in-game English text: her six profile records (Basic Info, HR Summary, Files 1 to 4), her Trust, Chat and Topic dialogue on Dijiang, and her promotion and combat voice lines, checked against the 1.5 client. The message-thread section summarizes the client text and quotes only lines with official English. The link between the “neatly dressed uncle” and H is our interpretation, and the game never states it outright.

## Frequently Asked Questions

**Who is Purrchena in Arknights Endfield?**

Purrchena is a Feline operator and the Brand Ambassador for the TGCC’s Ætherside Environmental Impact Syndrome Relief Foundation. She has an incurable form of Ætherside Syndrome that makes her fall asleep without warning, and she joined Endfield Industries’ Business Office as the liaison between Endfield and the Chamber on Ætherside relief.

**What is Purrchena’s real name?**

Rosalind. Her recommendation letter to Perlica, the Business Office and HR refers to her as Ms. Rosalind throughout. Purrchena is the public name that spread across the Civilization Band after media coverage of a rescue operation five years before she joined Endfield.

**What is Ætherside Syndrome?**

A condition caused when Ætherside environments affect the human body. A Foundation researcher calls it less a disease in the traditional sense and more a unique phenomenon. It has no cure, its progression is unpredictable, and symptoms can suddenly change. It is not contagious, and people who avoid high-depth environments are not at risk.

**Why does Purrchena fall asleep?**

Her Ætherside Syndrome attacks and damages her central nervous system, which makes her fall asleep suddenly and often. Her letter says six years of upgrades to her protective device, plus long-term care, keep her daily work unaffected. Her suit even carries pre-recorded voice lines so people know when she has dozed off.

**What is under Purrchena’s suit?**

The game has not shown it. When the Endministrator asks, she jokes that she is made of cotton candy, then falls asleep before answering. What the text does confirm is that the suit is a protective device built on an exo-skeleton, with a timed medicine dispenser and a crumb-cleaning system.

**Is Purrchena a robot?**

No. She says plush-bots like her do not exist on Talos-II. The electronic sounds people hear are lines she pre-recorded herself so they play while she is asleep, including one about the Endministrator hiding snacks behind the mask that she insists was never meant to be recorded.

**Are Purrchena’s parents Feline?**

No, and she jokes that it is probably because her grandparents were not Feline either. The real answer is in her Trust dialogue: her mom picked her up from the wildlands while delivering supplies in her RV. Her letter confirms she has an adoptive father.

**Who wrote Purrchena’s recommendation letter?**

It is signed H, Representative of the Highburg Pharmaceuticals LLC Ætherside Syndrome Business Unit and President of the Relief Foundation. H first met her after her adoptive father reached out, and the Foundation then paid for her medical care and education.

**Where is Purrchena from?**

She grew up on the road in her mom’s RV, crossing snowy mountains, deserts, forests and lakes. After the Foundation took her in she lived and studied in La Fantoma, the TGCC free city, and she still keeps her first suit in her La Fantoma apartment.
