**Snowshine is the last one left from her search and rescue cohort.** Blight disasters crippled some of her teammates and the frozen nights broke others, yet she keeps going back into the storm because she wants people to remember snow for its beauty.

She is the cheerful Ursus from Rhodes Island with the snowboard, the ice shield and the cheese fondue nobody asked for. Her profile records hold a diary from her first days on Talos-II, a merchant’s account of being saved by a stranger, and a pair of letters about the teammates she lost. Under the jokes is a rescuer who has watched her team fall apart one person at a time.

**How we checked this.** Everything below comes from Snowshine’s datamined profile records, voice lines and text message threads in the official English localization, checked against the current game data on 16 October 2026\. Where the files only hint at something, or where we connect two lines ourselves, we say so.

## TL;DR - Key Points

* **She is the only one left from her cohort.** “Blight disasters left a few with crippling disabilities. Some lost their minds in the frigid, snowy nights…”
* **A letter names who was lost.** Nelson lost a leg to the Blight, Lisa went blind, and Madeleine Crick left the north with hallucinations.
* **Her earlier name was Eyrwin.** That is what Madeleine calls her, and how she signs her reply.
* **She never trained for any of it.** Her first rescue was an accident on a snowboard, and a volunteer named Chris recruited her on the spot.
* **She wants snow remembered for its beauty.** “It would be so sad if all anyone thought of was catastrophe.”
* **Her diary opens with a mystery.** An unnamed woman “after leaving the Woods”, and memories that are not quite her own. The files never explain either.
* **On the ship she is a lot.** A fondue survey, a looted dessert bar, 2,420 photos of snow and a rescue drill starring the Endministrator.

## Who Is Snowshine?

Snowshine is an Ursus operator authenticated by Rhodes Island, born December 19 and Oripathy negative. Her medical exam rates her physiological strength “Excellent” and her combat skill “Normal”, and the Medical Division asks for extra checks because she “conducts her search and rescue (SAR) operations in Blighted environments.” She works for Rhodes Island and “now serves as Endfield Industries’ SAR liaison.” In battle she is the 5-star Cryo Defender covered in our [Snowshine build guide](https://endfieldhub.org/blog/snowshine-build-guide-cryo-defender-parry-meta-endfield).

She introduces herself plainly: “I’m a search and rescue expert specializing in low temperature operations. Get me on the team if you have a mission in the icefields or snowy mountains.” Her team is the SAR organization of the Northern Corridor Rescue Union. “Our missions typically involve messengers working in the north, traveling merchants, and military scouts who lost their way after being ambushed by the Aggeloi or beasts. My SAR teammates come from all across the world, and most of us are volunteers.”

Her HR summary adds an engineering background that “gives her vital technical expertise,” and notes how proudly she recounted one mission in particular: rescuing “the Oathkeepers and polar caravans.”

## The Diary That Starts With a Mystery

Snowshine’s fifth file is a set of voice logs, and the first one is addressed to her future self:

> “After leaving the Woods, she once said, ‘Try recording special and unique moments in your life. It may help you anchor yourself in the world.’ Till now, I don’t know if I really understood what she meant… So, I might as well record everything that I think is worth remembering.”

The next log is her first day on Talos-II, and it is stranger than it first reads. “This is my first time leaving Rhodes Island and stepping on the land of Talos-II… There are also plenty of things I have not yet seen in her memories. Although this place is quite different from Terra, the people and buildings feel distant yet familiar at the same time… It’s so strange…”

**Her files never say who “she” is, what “the Woods” are, or whose memories Snowshine means.** One of her text threads adds a matching detail: “Those Terra peaks I saw in the forest? Gorgeous, sure … but something always felt missing.” That is all the profile records give. Anything past it, including which woman this might be, is a guess the files do not support, so we leave it open.

## The North Felt Like Home

She went north because she wanted to see snow. “They say there are snowy mountains in the north and the central part of the Band. The north seems closer, so I guess I’ll head over there first.”

It did not feel new. “Today I arrived at a snowcapped mountain in the north. I felt right at home in this polar landscape. Everything, including the hexagonal columnar snowflakes and the veil-like aurora, felt really familiar to me…”

## Her First Rescue Was an Accident

On the way down, the same log goes on, she ran into a huge blizzard. Two Forte messengers were almost trapped in a nearby Blight. “I used my snowboard to pull one of them to safety. The other was saved by a fully armed Perro.”

The Perro was a volunteer with the Northern Corridor Rescue Union, which was “planning to establish a professional SAR team.” Before leaving he gave her a business card. “He said I behaved with calmness and reason despite my lack of professional training, even choosing the best rescue measures possible. Then he asked if I’d be interested in joining his outfit…”

What decided it was how the rescue felt. “When I pulled that messenger to safety, I did feel … a kind of ecstasy and joy I had never experienced before. It became a calling I couldn’t ignore.”

The next log is two lines long:

> “I thought about giving it a shot, so I called the Perro named Chris. I told him I want to be an SAR teammate. I am doing this for myself. The sunshine after the blizzard was also especially bright. I want to see that again.”

Her captain is a Perro too. “He’s a really nice guy, but once an SAR mission begins, he turns into super bossy-boots. He even makes us do multiple caliber checks on the hot water drill bit… ‘Every tiny detail matters in SAR!’” The files never say whether the captain is Chris, so treat that as an open question.

## The Ursus Girl on the Snowboard

Her third file is a recording from a donor to the Rescue Union, and it is the clearest picture of Snowshine at work, told by someone who did not know her name. The donor had joined a man named Rooter “on his hunt for that mysterious Sami vendor out in the middle of nowhere,” and two days into the north a Blighted snowstorm caught them at the foot of the mountains. “I will never forget the sight of an entire burdenbeast being swooshed away by the Blight-tainted snow.”

Then she arrived:

> “The snowstorm was just meters away from us when an Ursus girl swooped in from the skies, I kid you not! She flew in on a snowboard, pulled off a perfect landing next to us, slammed a shield on the ground, and suddenly a wall of ice appeared with a WOOSH! That wall kept the snowstorm away!”

She led them to a cave she called a temporary shelter, and it was full: “Oathkeepers, Seš’qa caravan drivers, and even Landbreakers!” A tall Feline pointed at the newcomers and shouted that they were frauds “plotting to bring their swindling ways to Sami.” The donor realized he was the guide who had quit on them days earlier. The Ursus girl said nothing. “She gave the Feline a glance and the big mean kittyboy … just sat down and said nothing else.”

She left before anyone could thank her, back out to keep searching. Another SAR team took them to safety. The donor never got her name, only recognized “the badges and markings on her outfit” from the illustrations in the shelter, tracked down the Union, and handed over supplies: “My token of gratitude to that Ursus lass!”

## The Letter From Madeleine

Snowshine’s fourth file is two private letters. The first is from Madeleine Crick, a teammate who left the rescue team without saying goodbye, and it opens with a name we never hear anywhere else: “Eyrwin: Maybe I should call you Snowshine now.”

Madeleine’s captain and attending surgeon, Margarit, ordered the move out of the north, saying it “would prevent my hallucinations from getting worse.” The letter is written from Kjersch, a city of snowy mountains with no auroras, “untouched by the Blight or the Aggeloi,” crossed by cable tramways.

Then it explains what broke. “Someone who had sworn to stay in the north and the SAR team for eternity … was suddenly beaten by a most mundane and ordinary blizzard.”

> “I never feared blizzards, the Blight, or any other disasters that could suddenly swoop in and take our lives. But when I saw Nelson lose a leg after getting sucked into the Blight while trying to save that unlucky prospector … and after learning that Lisa lost her sight from overexerting her Originium Arts to give everyone an early warning… I started doubting myself.”

The doubt spread to the rest of the team. Madeleine credits the captain with stopping something worse: “I was about to use the Arts Unit when he stopped me and ordered Medical Officer Margarit to give Ryder the timely treatment he needed… He saved me from doing something I would’ve regretted for the rest of my life.” The letter never says what Madeleine was about to do, and we will not guess past what it says.

The rest is advice. Madeleine names Eyrwin the best candidate on the team to become deputy captain, then warns that she cares for others “to the point of neglecting your own safety. So take this as advice from someone who’s been through it: never forget to look after yourself, especially when you’re out there saving others. You are important and irreplaceable to the SAR team and everyone who cares for you.” It ends with an invitation to Kjersch and “the best fondue in town. It tastes exactly like what you described to me.”

## Eyrwin’s Reply and the Sundried Berries

Snowshine’s answer is warm and short. She remembers the teammate who taught her to build an igloo shelter, the stern reminder “that every SAR teammate must maintain constant vigilance,” and the night Madeleine fixed her drone at 4 AM and told her to be more careful.

She does not blame anyone. “Ryder and the captain refused to tell me what exactly happened on the mountain, but I could sort of guess from the operational logs… I don’t think they, or anyone for that matter, would blame you for this.” She promises to visit, asks whether the fondue is really that good, and signs off with a postscript:

> “P.S. The pack that came with this letter is your favorite sundried berries. Eat them before they expire!”

In one of her text threads, Snowshine passes on a tip that “one of our retired veterans told me Kjersch’s peaks are just as stunning!” The thread does not name the veteran. Madeleine is the teammate her files place in Kjersch, but that link is our reading, not a line from the game.

## “I’m the Only One Left”

Snowshine says the hardest thing in her files once, in a trust line:

> “Saving lives is no easy task. I never fantasized about rescuing everyone without making sacrifices. I’m the only one left from my cohort of SAR teammates. Blight disasters left a few with crippling disabilities. Some lost their minds in the frigid, snowy nights… There were times of confusion, and moments when I felt the touch of fear.”

Read next to the letter, the pieces line up: Nelson’s leg and Lisa’s sight are the disabilities, and Madeleine’s hallucinations are the cold nights. The voice line does not name anyone, so that match is ours. What the files do state is the result. Of everyone who started with her, Snowshine is the one still in the field.

She does not pretend it always works out. “Not every SAR operation is a success story… Sudden changes in weather or terrain can happen in ways faster than you expect. This is why I would triple-check my gear before setting off on a mission.” And she remembers the people she saved. A father and daughter she pulled from an avalanche refused to speak to each other in her shelter, but “when the blizzard came down hard, the father always set aside food for the girl, and the girl did her best to care for her old man.”

## Why She Still Loves the Snow

After all of that, her answer to the snow is not fear. It is the reason she keeps doing the job:

> “I like the snow, the white-capped mountains, and the shimmering beauty revealed only in the frigid cold… This is why I don’t want them to leave painful memories to the people they touch. When people see the snowy mountains, the first thing they remember should be the enrapturing views from the summit. And when the snow falls, I hope they think of pristine crystals and blossoms of ice… _Sigh_ It would be so sad if all anyone thought of was catastrophe.”

Her text thread about the mountains says the same thing in her own words. “That saving lives isn’t just a duty. It’s … like sharing the warmth of fondue in a blizzard.” And she explains why photos never get it right: “No postcard or story can replace standing there … wind stealing your breath, ice in your boots. That’s when beauty means something.”

## The Light That Feels Like an Old Friend

One idle line on the ship ties her story back to the diary. Looking at the light on Talos-II’s clouds:

> “It reminds me of the aurora I know … and the visions of my dreams. I often see them when I’m atop the highest peaks of the northern snowy mountains. I know the light is a form of dangerous Æther energy, but seeing it felt like meeting an old friend… One who watches me … and protects me from afar…”

The aurora she knows, dreams she calls visions, a landscape that felt familiar on day one: the files keep circling the same idea without explaining it. We read it as the same thread as her first log, but the game has not said what it means.

## Snowshine on the Ship

The rest of her files are much lighter, and very fond of her.

* **The fondue.** “My package just arrived and I wonder if you’re interested in trying out my special cheese fondue? …Plenty of my colleagues told me it’s an ‘unforgettable experience of a lifetime’…” Her old rescue team did not like it either. So she runs a survey on the Endministrator (sweet or salty cheese, fin scales or spoiled rice) because a teammate told her “Talosians’ tastes change by region. Want folks to love your funky fondue? Adapt or die.” Her sign-off: “The more, the melt-ier!”
* **The dessert bar.** Canteen staff post warnings whenever she comes back to the ship, so the “dessert bar” is not “left with only the labels”. Her own line: “The Dijiang canteen has an all-you-can-eat snackbar?! …No, of course not! I’m not going to eat everything! Honest!”
* **The snowboard.** “It’s a gift from Lady Warfarin when I left Rhodes Island. The board’s constructed using rare materials, just like my shield.” One operator watched her demo turn and said, “She’s a guaranteed medalist if she ever attends” the Band Snowboard Championships. More on [Warfarin and Rhodes Island](https://endfieldhub.org/blog/who-is-warfarin-arknights-endfield-rhodes-island).
* **The ice makers.** [Yvonne](https://endfieldhub.org/blog/yvonne-lore-backstory-dad-burned-library-endfield) calls her “the first time I’ve met someone capable of using ice-making Arts Units with such expertise” and wants her to test more, since “She’ll shave at least ten days off my testing phase!”
* **Gilberta’s photos.** [Gilberta](https://endfieldhub.org/characters/gilberta) flew supplies, air-lifted the injured and found an SOS signal in a blizzard for the rescue team, then turned down every reward and asked only for photos of the view from the snowy peaks. Snowshine made the frame herself.
* **2,420 photos.** She sends the Endministrator a file called “Snowspeaks (2420 images)”. “How do you choose between 2420 perfect snowscapes?!”
* **The rescue drill.** Perlica approved it. The three drills are “What to do when the Endministrator collapses”, “rescue techniques for Endministrator trapped in a Blighted snowstorm” and “securing rations for a starving Endministrator”. The Endministrator asks: “Why do I keep getting rescued?”
* **Small errands.** She delivers a bottle of vinegar just in time to save the chef’s sweet and sour meat, offers cheese “for restoring your stamina” at every rest stop, and says she once carried the Endministrator on her back and found them “lighter than a newborn burdenbeast calf”.
* **Naps.** After a mission she sleeps first, “and sometimes I would accidentally oversleep by … quite a bit.”
* **Lil’ Dodge** reminds her of her captain “every time I see him”.

## What Her Story Adds Up To

The files give Snowshine two lives. One is the rescuer who walked into the job by accident on a snowboard, joined because the sun after a blizzard was bright, and stayed while the people around her lost legs, sight and peace of mind. The other is the girl on the ship pushing fondue on everyone and taking 2,420 photos of the same mountains.

They are the same choice. She saw what snow does to people and decided the last thing they should remember is the view from the summit. Madeleine’s advice to look after herself is the one thing in her files she never answers.
