**Siracusa was the rainy mafia country of the first Arknights, run by Lupo families called famiglie. In Arknights Endfield, more than a century later on Talos-II, it survives in the Pack, a Lupo clan that still says Famiglia and remembers “our old villa in Siracusa”.**

In the first Arknights, Siracusa is a rainy country run by mafia families, and most of its gangsters are Lupos, people with wolf ears and tails. Its most famous wolf is Lappland, a smiling madwoman who applied for a job at Rhodes Island by handing over her resume with her swords resting on an operator’s neck. More than a hundred years later, on another planet, Endfield has a wolf clan that still calls itself a Famiglia. One of its stories ends with a father who hopes to see his grandfather again at their old villa in Siracusa. This post follows our long-form video section by section: what Siracusa and its wolves were, what Endfield says became of them, and what they gave up to survive.

_How we checked this: every quote comes from the game text of the original Arknights (story stages of Il Siracusano and I Portatori dei Velluti, operator files, voice lines, module and event text) and of Arknights Endfield (operator files, voice lines, text chats, quests, encyclopedia and weapon archives, checked against the Version 1.6 game data). Where we quote the Chinese text, the translation is ours and we say so. Where we connect facts the games don’t connect, we say it is our reading. **TL;DR**

* **Siracusa was wolf country:** twelve big mafia families under one old woman, Signora Sicilia, and immortal Wolf Lords in the wilds playing a killing game with humans.
* **Lappland and Texas are its best-known wolves:** a madwoman thrown out of the oldest famiglia, and the last of a family wiped out on Sicilia’s orders.
* **Arknights leaves them in the wild:** Lappland becomes the first human alpha of the Wolf Lords, and Texas refuses to start a new Texas family. Endfield never mentions either of them.
* **Endfield says “Siracusa” four times:** an energy bar, a mafia film, the old Endmin’s “descendants of Siracusan families”, and a villa in Siracusa.
* **The Pack carries the rest:** the names Luppino, Rozzan and Vincenzo, Famiglia, Nonno and grazie, and in Chinese the same word for “family” that Arknights uses for the famiglie.
* **On the night Jakub fell,** a Pack father chose to let the “Famiglia name” be washed away by the clan’s so the Pack could survive. The story is in Rossi’s sword.

## What Was Siracusa in the First Arknights?

Arknights takes place on a world called Terra, and Siracusa is one of its countries. Siracusa is run by mafia families, and each one is called a famiglia. A famiglia is more than a group of relatives. It’s a gang with its own businesses, its own soldiers and its own name to defend. The gangsters who work for these families are called mafiosi, and in Siracusa they get called wolves. A Columbian mafioso tells a young one, “Don’t see a whole lotta wolf pups out there as bright as you.” The heir of the Bellone family has an event card that calls him “The conflicted young master of the wolfpack, emblematic of an era in flux.” The game never defines “wolf” as a word for a mafioso; that is our summary of how it uses it.

![A rainy Siracusan street, labelled Siracusa, a rainy country](https://endfieldhub.org/images/blog/what-happened-to-siracusa/siracusa-rainy-country.webp)

### Who is Signora Sicilia?

Above all the families sits one old woman, Signora Sicilia. She is the closest thing Siracusa has to a ruler. Lappland’s file dates her system to “the late 1030s, when Signora Sicilia established the ‘Guns and Order’”. The twelve biggest families, the Dodici Famiglie, still run their businesses, but they answer to her through the Grey Hall, the council where the family heads sit at one table. Bernardo’s son puts it to her face: “you chose to continue the famiglia system when you established Grey Hall, except now all the famiglie have to operate under your control.”

Even the judges work for her. A carwash worker says it plainly: “In Siracusa, Signora Sicilia is justice itself.” Sicilia herself addresses one judge as “Judge Lavinia, instrument of my will”.

![Signora Sicilia in a black coat on a night street, labelled the closest thing to a ruler](https://endfieldhub.org/images/blog/what-happened-to-siracusa/siracusa-signora-sicilia.webp)

She also picks her own people. Lappland tells the story of a letter: “Signora Sicilia invited me to join the Bocca al Lupo.” Then: “Basically, become one of her wolves.” And: “So I burned the letter.” The game never explains what the Bocca al Lupo does. Our plain reading is that it means stop being a wolf for one family and become a wolf for Sicilia herself.

![Lappland in a theatre, with her line Basically, become one of her wolves](https://endfieldhub.org/images/blog/what-happened-to-siracusa/siracusa-become-one-of-her-wolves.webp)

### The famiglia comes first

In this country, the family comes before everything. The enemy file for the lowest mafiosi says: “Their lives are hardly worth anything, but their deaths are sufficient cause for their famiglia to seek revenge.” Lappland adds that “It’s Siracusan tradition to mask up and dress formally for a kill”, and in the Carnevale story she explains where the masks come from: “In the old days, the famiglie murdered each other on Carnevale, the last surviving wolf taking the masks of the vanquished.”

### Who are the Signori dei Lupi, the Wolf Lords?

Behind the human wolves, there are real ones. In the wilds of Siracusa live the Signori dei Lupi, the Wolf Lords. The narration calls them “Beings that were never born. They have existed since time immemorial,” and says “He and his kind have borne witness to the path that the wolfpack tread on the wildness.” “The Signori dei Lupi are immortal.” Lunacub’s file says they belong to a group of ancient beings who “sometimes call themselves the aristocrats of beasts, though they rule over nothing, that much I can guarantee.”

Since fighting each other gets them nothing, they made a game. “They gain no satisfaction from fighting amongst themselves, so they have set rules for their game. Each Signore dei Lupi grooms a human to hunt the others. These are the Fangs of the Signore dei Lupi. The one with the last Fang standing becomes the alpha.”

So the order goes: the Wolf Lords on top, their Fangs below them, and below the Fangs, whole families that get dragged into the game. That three-level order is our summary of the rules, not a chart the game draws.

![Our hierarchy card: Wolf Lords on top, Fangs, the humans they raise, and Families dragged into the game](https://endfieldhub.org/images/blog/what-happened-to-siracusa/siracusa-wolf-lords-fangs-families.webp)

Most Wolf Lords stay in the wild. One doesn’t. Bernardo, head of the Bellone family, explains: “he’s the only one who involves himself in human society. The rest of them stay out in the wildness. He believes that the authority over man is a form of power. And he wants to use it to triumph over the other Signori dei Lupi.” That Wolf Lord is **Zaaro**, and Bernardo is his Fang. Sicilia’s monologue calls the Bellones “the strongest famiglia in Siracusa”, and Zaaro wants his Fang to overthrow her and take the country. When Bernardo’s son, Leontuzzo, finds out, he says: “You, me, the entire famiglia, we’re all tools to him.”

### Why does Lappland call Siracusa a swamp?

Lappland has her own word for all of it. Her event card says “In her eyes, Siracusa is a swamp.” To Texas she says: “It has ingrained into the genes of the Siracusans the instinct to turn any new turf into the same swamp. This endless cycle is what Siracusa is. Don’t try to escape it or change it. The easiest thing to do is to learn to enjoy the swim.”

Texas puts it another way: “Ever noticed how even the rain here stains the walls outside? Dirty rainwater can’t wash anything clean. And that’s Siracusa.”

## Who Are Lappland and Texas?

Lappland comes from the oldest famiglia in Siracusa, the Saluzzos. Her later file calls her “The only daughter of Alberto Saluzzo, patriarch of the Siracusan Famiglia Saluzzo.” About her father it says: “He had an almost perverted desire to control her, equipping her with an elite education, but also throwing her into the barrens as a child for training, and even expelling her from the family because of her various transgressions.”

He also gave her a curfew. Her module text says: “Whatever happens, she needs to be home before nine. A rule her father made. She’s allowed to die, but not to break this rule.”

![Lappland's module file quoted on a card: home before nine, allowed to die but not to break the rule](https://endfieldhub.org/images/blog/what-happened-to-siracusa/siracusa-home-before-nine.webp)

Rhodes Island’s files call her mad. “Some consider her simply mad, despite how polite and personable she can be in daily life. She actively seeks out people to converse with, indulging her taste for gallows humor, eager to see how her conversation partners will respond. Still, we know Lappland to be a dangerous element, and even at her most well-behaved, she remains frightening.” She is also infected with Oripathy, the deadly disease of Terra, and her case is unusual: “Lappland’s Oripathy symptoms go beyond the physical to cause an abnormal obsession toward a certain target of hers.” That target is a Lupo from another mafia family, Texas.

Texas, real name Cellinia Texas, was born in Columbia, another country, into what the game calls “the strongest famiglia in Columbia”. “I was born in Columbia, but my grandfather wanted me to become a proper mafiosa and sent me to Siracusa to learn the trade.” In another scene: “My grandfather was a sentimental man. He sent me to Siracusa, hoping I would remember my roots.” That the Texas family came from Siracusa long ago is our reading of “remember my roots”; the game doesn’t give the family’s history.

She lived with the Saluzzos, and the two girls grew up competing. Years later Lappland remembers the first time she saw her, holding her grandfather’s hand and watching the Saluzzo workers trim the grapevines. Texas remembers something else: “That’s because the grapes you picked were so sour they almost burned a hole in my tongue.”

### What happened to the Texas family?

Then the Texas family broke apart from the inside. “Seven years ago… Texas’s father, Giuseppe, murdered his own father, Salvadore, and declared that the Texases would no longer operate under Siracusa’s control. That upset Signora Sicilia, who sent an elite force from the Twelve Families to Columbia to ‘liquidate’ the Texas Family.”

![Our family line for the Texas family: Salvadore crossed out, Giuseppe his son, Cellinia the granddaughter](https://endfieldhub.org/images/blog/what-happened-to-siracusa/siracusa-texas-family-line.webp)

Texas was there when her father killed her grandfather. “Life isn’t a play where every move is sprinkled with a little heroism or villainy. What happened was just an undignified slaughter. My father bought a counterfeit gun from Blacksteel. When he pulled the trigger, it exploded and did a number on him. My grandfather fell to the ground. My father drew his knife with his injured hand, but the first stab went wide.” She ends it: “In that moment, I was exhausted. Exhausted with everything. So I decided to leave.”

![Texas's line on a dark card: What happened was just an undignified slaughter](https://endfieldhub.org/images/blog/what-happened-to-siracusa/siracusa-undignified-slaughter.webp)

Lappland was one of the attackers. “I joined in the liquidation. I was fantasizing about how she would fight me to the death for the sake of her famiglia. It got my heart pounding and my blood racing.” Instead, “The Texas mansion went up in flames, burning away the famiglia’s very existence. And the arsonist… was standing there at the front door.” When Lappland looked into her eyes, what she saw was “Exhaustion.”

Danbrown says what it cost Lappland: “She got kicked out because she went out on her own to hunt down Cellinia. Her men got caught up in a counterattack, and a lot of them died.” For that, her father threw her out of the Saluzzo family. In a later event Lappland’s own version is that she “let Texas go in Columbia”. Both are game text; the video follows Danbrown.

### How did Texas get out alive?

“Seven years ago, when I wanted out of Columbia, Zaaro struck a deal with me. I’d be allowed to go free, and in return, I would do him one favor, in the future. Without this promise, I wouldn’t have made it out of Columbia alive.”

![A card for Zaaro's deal: let her go free, in return she owes him one favour](https://endfieldhub.org/images/blog/what-happened-to-siracusa/siracusa-zaaro-deal.webp)

She ended up in Lungmen, a city far from Siracusa. “For a long time, she lived like a walking corpse,” until a strange boss named Emperor founded Penguin Logistics and dragged her into it: “Ain’t no time for brooding when your feet are busy, so I founded this joint, and dragged her into it.”

And Lappland followed her, which is how the resume happened. Her file says that after Rhodes Island finished a job with Penguin Logistics, she cornered one of its operators, handed over her resume with a smile, rested her two strangely shaped blades on the operator’s neck, and asked: “Is Texas your employee?”

![Our Rhodes Island personnel file for Lappland: origin Siracusa, delivered in person](https://endfieldhub.org/images/blog/what-happened-to-siracusa/siracusa-lappland-personnel-file.webp)

### What did Emperor say to Zaaro?

Seven years after the liquidation, the favour comes due. Zaaro walks into Lungmen and calls Texas the “last wolf of Famiglia Texas”; he wants her to come back to Siracusa and help his Fang. Then her boss shows up. Emperor is drawn as a penguin, but Zaaro greets him as kin, and Lappland’s file lists Emperor beside the Signori dei Lupi as immortals. The exchange, in the game’s words:

* Emperor: “If it ain’t Zaaro, Lord of Wolves.” “Think you can just show up in my city, take my people, leave like it ain’t no thing?” “Your brain overgrown with weeds now too? Ah, my bad. Forgot, you ain’t even got a brain.”
* Zaaro: “Emperor, my wretched kin.” “How long has it been since we last met? Two hundred years? Three?”
* Emperor: “I don’t even get how your brothers and sisters still let you and your pups play your little mob game in Siracusa.”
* Zaaro: “We’ve always belonged to the wasteland.”
* Emperor: “Zaaro, you ain’t made no progress in millennia, and on top of that, you also picked up the dumbest shit humanity’s got on offer.”

![Emperor with a pistol beside a black wolf in the rain, labelled a brain overgrown with weeds](https://endfieldhub.org/images/blog/what-happened-to-siracusa/siracusa-emperor-zaaro-weeds.webp)

Texas says she has to keep her word. So Emperor gives her a vacation instead, and Zaaro a warning: “if you dare get up in her business, I’ll show up at your stinkin’ lair and rip the tail hairs outta you and every one of your siblings. Make myself a nice broom.” The scene ends: “And so, a woman and a wolf walk westward, soon disappearing into the night.”

### Lappland and Texas in Il Siracusano

That trip is the story of Il Siracusano, the Arknights event set in Siracusa. When Texas gets back, Lappland is already there. “Why are you here?” “It’s simple, really. Because you are.” Texas guesses: “Probably about ten years now?” Lappland corrects her: “Seven years and five months.”

Near the end, Lappland explains what Texas means to her. She wanted out “from Siracusa. From the famiglia. From our blood. From the control of our rules.” “I hated it, all of it. But in the end, I couldn’t actually escape any of it. All those things are like the strings of a marionette over my head.” “There’s no way out.” When she found out Texas wanted to leave everything behind, she was “Exhilarated!”, “because she taught me that the choice exists in the first place.”

So they fight one last duel in a rainy park. “Texas, am I your friend, or your enemy?” “You’re my friend, and my enemy.” “Then go.” “Let me do what a friend should.”

![Lappland and Texas crossing blades in the rain, with the line my friend, and my enemy](https://endfieldhub.org/images/blog/what-happened-to-siracusa/siracusa-friend-and-enemy.webp)

### How did Zaaro become Lappland’s lackey?

Zaaro’s plan doesn’t survive the event. His Fang, Bernardo, turns on him, and he loses the game. His enemy file sums it up: “His tricks exhausted, he has lost everything.” So he goes looking for a new human, and “almost immediately, he found Lappland, wandering the wastes after having left Volsinii.”

“Zaaro and Lappland have been fighting in the wastes for the past three months. During that time, Zaaro had countless opportunities to sink his fangs into the neck of this madwoman. There was no way for her to defeat him. But, he gradually comes to realize, it is actually he who has no way of defeating her.” Then: “And thus, for the first time in thousands of years and perhaps the last time, the incarnation of the wastes lies down next to a human being.”

![The game's lines on a card: Until the victor is decided, I will walk with you. Hah. Whatever you say.](https://endfieldhub.org/images/blog/what-happened-to-siracusa/siracusa-zaaro-walk-with-you.webp)

A year later, in the next Siracusa event, I Portatori dei Velluti, Lappland drives a taxi. “Zaaro and I came across this pile of scrap metal in the wilderness,” she tells Texas, and when Texas interrupts: “yes, he’s my lackey now.” Texas asks: “Are you absolutely sure you’re not just recalling the plot of a radio program?” To Zaaro, Lappland is blunt: “One: I am not a toy for your entertainment. Two: As my toy for my entertainment, I’ve realized an immortal Signore dei Lupi is just so boring…” And later: “Hey, Zaaro. Help me drag these corpses aside so I can reverse the car.”

![A yellow taxi speeding away with red light trails](https://endfieldhub.org/images/blog/what-happened-to-siracusa/siracusa-lappland-taxi.webp)

Her file lists what she did at that year’s Carnevale, which “included but was not limited to” helping strangers put her own father in prison, “driving a cargo landship loaded with weapons into a massive parade crowd, and helping a Vulpo mother exact vengeance… All of this, to ‘spice up’ the Carnevale.” Her verdict: “Honestly, shouldn’t they have given me a medal?” She sends her father a Carnevale suit in his cell: “You’ll be better-dressed than all your fellow inmates, after all…”

### How did Lappland become the alpha?

By the end of that event, the game’s own summary says: “The Signori dei Lupi game ends, but humanity’s power struggles persist as always. Lappland becomes the new alpha.” The Wolf Lord Agnese says: “No human has ever been the alpha of the pack in the memory of the Signori dei Lupi… nay, of the Beast Aristocrats.”

Zaaro reminds her of a promise: “I thought you promised Texas to take us away from Siracusa.” “Haha, I lied.” The game doesn’t spell out what she lied about. Another Wolf Lord, Vargo, points at her leg: “Look at the crystals on her leg. She’s pretty far gone, and Oripathy is an uncurable disease for humans. Will we, deathless Signori dei Lupi, recognize a dying human as alpha?” Lappland: “True, I probably don’t have much time left. Doesn’t that add to the thrill of the game?”

![Lappland under fireworks, labelled the new alpha](https://endfieldhub.org/images/blog/what-happened-to-siracusa/siracusa-new-alpha.webp)

Her event card ends her story: “The lone wolf breaks free from the swamp, also relinquishing control of herself, and steps into the wildness.” Texas leaves Siracusa too. Her file says “She has not taken up the surname Texas to create a new mafia family” and “She has made it clear that she will not stay in Siracusa when all is said and done.” That’s where Arknights leaves them. Endfield never mentions either of them.

## Is Siracusa in Arknights Endfield?

Endfield is set more than a century later, on Talos-II, a planet where people from Terra settled and can never go back. In all of Endfield’s English text, the word Siracusa appears only four times, and the Chinese text has the same four.

Two are jokes. In Wuling City, a menu sells energy bars: “A Taste of Rations from the Aggeloi War… Despair of Siracusans…” And in a list of old Terran films there is “Duel at Crimson Cliff (Siracusa)”: “A classic mafia movie where two families engage in a bloody feud over conflicting interests in a place called Crimson Cliff. Family, honor, and betrayal are its main themes.” More than a century later, Siracusa is still known for mafia movies.

![The Wuling City menu line on a card: Despair of Siracusans, one flavour of energy bar](https://endfieldhub.org/images/blog/what-happened-to-siracusa/siracusa-despair-of-siracusans.webp)

![The film listing on a card: Duel at Crimson Cliff (Siracusa), a classic mafia movie](https://endfieldhub.org/images/blog/what-happened-to-siracusa/siracusa-duel-at-crimson-cliff.webp)

### What does the old Endmin say about Siracusa?

The third mention comes from Endfield’s previous leader, the old Endmin. In Version 1.6, inside Si’s painting, the Endmin catches them up on everything that has happened since. When the Landbreakers come up, the answer is:

> “Landbreakers… Jakub’s loyalists and descendants of Siracusan families? Fate has dealt a strange hand indeed.”

In Chinese the line is harsher. Our translation: “Landbreakers… Jakub’s remnants, and the descendants of Siracusan families? Fate truly plays tricks.” The line could describe the Landbreakers broadly rather than one clan, so we quote it as said. The fourth mention, the villa, is in the last section below.

![The old Endmin's line on a card over a hooded figure: descendants of Siracusan families](https://endfieldhub.org/images/blog/what-happened-to-siracusa/siracusa-old-endmin-line.webp)

### Who are the Landbreakers, and where does the Pack fit?

Landbreaker is the name for the armed gangs of Talos-II’s wilds, and it started with one man. The encyclopedia says “The origins of the Landbreakers can be traced back to the 90th year after the Terrans first arrived at Talos-II. Jakub Meissen, the Warlord of the Wilds, named his massive bandit army the ‘Landbreakers’.” The Civilization Band, the side of law and order on Talos-II, crushed it, and “his legacy was inherited by three major clans, namely the Bonekrushers, the Pack, and the Sandreavers.” The race glossary adds: “The famous Landbreaker Clan known as the Pack have many Lupo members.” Our [Jakub Meissen post](https://endfieldhub.org/blog/jakub-meissen-landbreakers-golden-age-lore) covers the warlord himself.

So the Pack is a Landbreaker clan, but the odd one out. Wulfgard’s file:

> “In a time when most Landbreakers are seen as ‘destroyers of order’, the Pack stands out as an anomaly. They value order and hold a peaceful attitude toward the Civilization Band. Even now, they cling to certain old traditions, such as strong familial bonds and a deep respect for unity.”

![Wulfgard's file quoted on a card: the Pack stands out as an anomaly](https://endfieldhub.org/images/blog/what-happened-to-siracusa/siracusa-wulfgard-file-pack-anomaly.webp)

In the Chinese text, “strong familial bonds” is 家族文化, literally “family culture” (our translation), and 家族 is the same word Chinese Arknights uses for Siracusa’s famiglie.

![家族 on a card: family, the same word Chinese Arknights uses for Siracusa's famiglie](https://endfieldhub.org/images/blog/what-happened-to-siracusa/siracusa-jiazu-family.webp)

### Why do the Pack’s names sound Italian?

Their names sound like Siracusa. Rossi’s full name is **Rossina Wulfperl Luppino**, and her brother’s is **Catello Wulfgard Luppino**. Around them are Nonno Rozzan, the elder Rossi calls grandpa, their friends Giovanni and Tommaso, and little Vincenzo next door. In English they say grazie, Rossi says “Mamma mia!”, and Wulfgard, in his voice line about his sister, calls her “the Wulfperl of Famiglia Luppino”. The two of them each carry a bone charm; in the Chinese text Wulfgard calls it a talisman passed down for generations in the Luppino family (our translation).

![Our family card: Rossina Wulfperl Luppino, Catello Wulfgard Luppino her brother, Nonno Rozzan](https://endfieldhub.org/images/blog/what-happened-to-siracusa/siracusa-luppino-names.webp)

One thing to know: the heavy Italian (Capo, Don, omertà, grazie, Nonno) is the English localization’s flavour, and the Chinese uses plain Chinese words. Siracusa itself, the Famiglia (家族), the Luppino name and the villa are in both languages.

![Wulfgard's line on a card: She is the Wulfperl of Famiglia Luppino](https://endfieldhub.org/images/blog/what-happened-to-siracusa/siracusa-wulfperl-of-famiglia-luppino.webp)

## Who Are Rossi and Wulfgard?

Endfield players know these two well. Rossi introduces herself as “Rossina Wulfperl Luppino” and then “Prima Elite of the Pack, future Capo, and strongarm of the Don! Remember this well!” Her idea of a battle cry: “The hour of bloodshed is upon us. It’s time to hunt. I mean … it’s time to eat.” Her brother Wulfgard pointed a gun at the Endmin the first time they met, and later apologised by text: “I saw the legendary Endmin and my instincts took over.”

Under the jokes, the Pack has a blood feud with the Bonekrushers. Rossi: “We’re the clan that holds grudges longest in this world, and one day, we will settle this score!” Over ten years ago, the Bonekrushers ambushed the Pack just after the death of its leader. Rossi was a baby, and one of the Pack’s Elder Wolves held on to her while Bonekrusher blades pierced him, until he could pass her to safety. Her red cloak is “stained with the blood of my kindred”, and it reminds her “never to forget the vendetta”. Her side of that night is in our [Rossi lore post](https://endfieldhub.org/blog/rossi-lore-backstory-bloodstained-cloak-endfield).

Wulfgard chose a different way. He left the Pack to work with Endfield: “I want another future for the Pack… and Endfield holds the possibility of making it real.” In his quest, Lone Wolf, their childhood friend Giovanni kills their friend Tommaso. Wulfgard faces him with ”…The blade that killed Tommaso,” and Giovanni throws the word back: “The true Pack lives by purpose and honor… We don’t sell out our own for some measly creds, trading blood and sweat to those companies! The real traitor here … is YOU!” Wulfgard kills him, then gives him the Pack’s rites: “He remains a Pack member. His final rites should follow the code of the Pack.” His rule is the first lesson the Pack teaches: “Every Lupo must pay the price of their choice.” The whole hunt is in our [Wulfgard lore post](https://endfieldhub.org/blog/wulfgard-lore-backstory-pack-traitor-endfield).

![Wulfgard's line on a card: Every Lupo must pay the price of their choice](https://endfieldhub.org/images/blog/what-happened-to-siracusa/siracusa-every-lupo-pays.webp)

So the Pack is split over one question: keep the old ways, or change them to survive. That question is older than either of them. Rossi’s own sword carries a story about the night the Pack first faced it.

## What Is the Lupine Scarlet Story?

Rossi’s signature sword is called Lupine Scarlet, and its archive text is set decades before her, on the night Jakub’s negotiations with the Civilization Band fall apart. A Pack father comes home to his barracks out of the cold. His daughter is asleep: “The cub of the Pack was four, and the hardest to coddle to sleep.” His wife is “wholly focused on honing a short blade”.

![Lupine Scarlet, Rossi's sword, against a dark background](https://endfieldhub.org/images/blog/what-happened-to-siracusa/siracusa-lupine-scarlet-sword.webp)

The Pack is one of the clans inside Jakub’s army, but it never agreed with him. His wife: “The Pack never shared Jakub’s views. The Landbreaker clans will definitely break apart…” Clans that used to be friends will become predator and prey. “The clan must hunt them down and feast upon the kill. We’ll become clannibals.” He likes the word: “Clannibals… I like that word.” Today it is the name of Wulfgard’s signature gun, and in Chinese both are 同类相食, “eating your own kind”.

![His wife's line on a card: We'll become clannibals](https://endfieldhub.org/images/blog/what-happened-to-siracusa/siracusa-clannibals.webp)

![Clannibal, Wulfgard's pair of red handcannons](https://endfieldhub.org/images/blog/what-happened-to-siracusa/siracusa-clannibal-pistol.webp)

The first target is the Bonekrushers: “They like Jakub too much. These fanatics kinda disgust me.” He says it’s a quick raid, back in time for breakfast: “I’m sure. The hit is just a stroll in the park…” She slams her gun on the table. A bullet rolls off and into the corner of the barracks. “Don’t lie to me.”

Then she says what’s really going on:

> “Wolves will be killing Wolves. The Clan will be forced to do housekeeping. Those who stand with Jakub will be eliminated. Even the Wolves who made their ‘names’ in the Civilization Band by raiding and killing will be bled dry and left to die in the wildlands. And that isn’t the end of it. Some of you will be sent out to war with the other Clans. Direct, open war. It’s a sign. The Banders know the best time for their offensive approaches. They know the Pack takes a different path compared to the other Clans… You want to rush the end of the Landbreakers… And some of you volunteered for this suicidal path so that the Clan can survive.”

He’s one of them. “How did you guess?” “Because my tally is higher than yours, dear. I see murder glistening in your eyes.” (The Chinese is blunter; our translation: “I have killed far more people than you, dear.”)

Calling the Pack’s targets “the Landbreakers who are still loyal to Jakub” is our plain reading of “They like Jakub too much” and “Those who stand with Jakub will be eliminated”; the Pack is itself one of Jakub’s clans.

### “Our old villa in Siracusa”

This is the fourth time Endfield names Siracusa:

> “Love, I do not fear this… Maybe when I close my eyes, I’ll see Nonno waiting at our old villa in Siracusa… I’ll tell him that I took care of my beloved wife, my baby girl, and all the other cubs… I’ll tell him that our legacy lives on, running atop the grazing fields, counting creds in a city alley, or even embracing new lives as Talosians… Our Famiglia name will be cleansed anew with the name of our Clan… No matter the life we chose… the Pack will decide for ourselves…”

The Chinese says it more plainly. Our translation: “Maybe when I close my eyes, I’ll see Grandpa waiting for me in our homeland, at the estate in Siracusa”, and “washing away the name of the Family with the name of the Clan… Whatever life we live, the Pack will choose it all for itself.”

She says she’s going with him. “I forbid it. I chose to join this Hunt and accept death so that you may live. And you must live, even if you have to forget about our homes and abandon the Famiglia. I…”

He can’t finish. “The girl’s little palm opened to reveal the bullet that rolled off to the corner.”

> “Good hunting, Papa…”

He had planned to leave without saying goodbye. “But those soft words of encouragement shattered it and jerked him out from the great river called Death.” His wife: “We are bound by blood, and that is how legacy is carried out, isn’t it?” “The soft hands, small hands, and rough hands gripped each other.” And the story ends on a promise: “Before the cubs could freely roam the wilderness, no one can kill us. No one.”

The story never names this family, and it never says whether he came home. The little girl can’t be Rossi: other game text says “Jakub has been pushing up daisies for decades”, while Rossi was a baby in an ambush “over ten years ago”. But the game gave this story to Rossi’s sword.

## So, What Happened to Siracusa’s Wolves?

Endfield never says how they crossed to Talos-II. But its old leader says the Landbreakers include descendants of Siracusan families, and the Pack still has the names, the family charm, the Italian, and a grandfather’s villa in Siracusa that none of them will ever see.

Lappland said Siracusans turn every new place into the same swamp. On Talos-II, the wolves partly did: families feuding, wolves killing wolves, and a vendetta that has lasted for generations. But Lappland also said Texas showed her the choice exists. And on the night Jakub fell, one Pack father chose to let the Famiglia name be washed away by the clan’s, so the Pack could decide its own life.

More than a century later, the Pack is still deciding. Giovanni wanted the old ways. Wulfgard texts the Endmin: “Endmin, one day, I hope ull see a whole new Pack.” And Rossi carries a small carving knife she uses “to sculpt all sorts of legends and heroes”. Its item text says: “Nobody gets to dictate the future of another. She must decide what to be on her own. That is the key.”

And if you ask her who she is, she’ll tell you: “I’m Rossina, granted name Wulfperl, meaning the Pack’s treasure! You’d better remember that!”

**What the games don’t say:** how or when any Siracusan family reached Talos-II, whether the old Endmin meant the Pack or the Landbreakers as a whole, who the Lupine Scarlet family were, and whether the father came home. Nothing in either game links the Luppinos to Lappland, Texas or any famiglia from the first Arknights.
