Storage Slots Used Up error - how to fix?

I can't accept the mail that has Ferrium and Cryston Components as it says that my storage slots are used up. I can't seem to do anything to free up space to accept them, neither in my backpack nor my Valley IV depot (not yet in Wuling). Is there something I can do to accept these components?

you need 24 backpack slots open.
