Skipping 1.0 characters, good idea?

As a newbie who started a few days ago, I don’t think I’ll be able to pull Laevatain without spending a significant amount of $.

After researching and talking with some people, my plan is to skip all 1.0 characters and go with the physical team of: Pog/Lifeng/Chen/Endmin. I hear the physical team is almost on par with Laevatain, and once a 6 star physical dps comes out, it may even surpass Laevatain and that’s what I’ll likely be saving my pulls for.

Is this a good to take in terms of meta and being able to clear all content?

For right now, in my opinion, it is ok to skip since we are so early into the game and there is no content that needs any 1.0 unit. Definitely wait and see what's next if you cant fully commit to a team right now. Also the characters from the standard banner are great for right now so no rush!
