Zhuang Fangyi: Viceroy of Wuling Complete Analysis | Endfield

Whether she is holding back a Blight tide with a wave of her hand or secretly hiding a mountain of mascot stickers behind her desk, Zhuang Fangyi is the undisputed star of the Wuling region in Arknights: Endfield. As the Viceroy of Wuling and a senior Tianshi of the Hongshan Academy of Sciences (HAS), she is the woman who turned a disaster site into a thriving metropolis.

Here is a deep dive into the “Gentle Might” behind Wuling’s most powerful leader.

The Face of Wuling: Viceroy and Tianshi

Zhuang Fangyi isn’t just a politician; she is a master of Lei Fa (Thunder Arts), a sophisticated form of lightning manipulation that bridges the gap between ancient tradition and cutting-edge science. She was appointed to her position in the wake of the Year 142 catastrophe, a laboratory failure that left Wuling in ruins and claimed the lives of her mentor and many others.

In just ten years, she transformed the damaged Wuling Science Station into a prosperous urban hub, all while standing next to a dangerous Aether exclusion zone.

The “Gentle Might” Philosophy

Zhuang Fangyi governs with a philosophy she calls “Gentle Might.” She believes in protecting the peace of her citizens, even if it means keeping the truth of their dwindling resources a secret to prevent panic.

Her most fascinating trait is her relationship with the Qingbo Stockade, a group of outcasts who often raid Wuling’s supplies. Instead of meeting them with force, Zhuang deliberately leaves supplies “unguarded” for them to “steal.” This allows the Stockaders to maintain their pride while ensuring they don’t starve—a strategic move that eventually turned former enemies into allies against the Landbreakers.

A Secret Fan and a Surprising Creator

Despite her professional and stoic exterior, Zhuang Fangyi has a soft side that she tries (and fails) to keep hidden. She is a massive fan of Chubby Lung, the adorable mascot of the Wuling region.

Her introduction reveals a plushie on her desk that she weakly attempts to hide, and her chair is covered in a massive stack of Chubby Lung stickers. Even more surprising? Text messages reveal that she is actually the one who designed the mascot in the first place, though she still insists on buying the merchandise like any other fan.

The 20-Year Connection

One of the most emotional parts of her story is her history with the Endministrator. Long before the player’s amnesia, a junior apprentice version of Zhuang Fangyi worked alongside the Endministrator on “Project Xiranite”.

She patterned her entire leadership style after the Endministrator’s casual and friendly approach to subordinates. One of the most poignant moments in the Wuling arc is a walk through the pear blossoms—trees that grew from a seed the Endministrator gave her a decade ago. While she remembers every moment of their past, the tragedy lies in the fact that the amnesiac Endministrator currently has no memory of her or the city they built together.

Legend of the Solo Defense

While she is currently a busy administrator, her reputation was cemented by the “Angel Defense.” When an invasion of “Angels”—dangerous Aether-based lifeforms—threatened to wipe out the city, Zhuang Fangyi famously repelled the entire assault solo using her lightning mastery alone.

This mastery translates to her combat style as an Electric Striker. When she enters her Empyrean of Truth state, she transforms into a whirlwind of chain lightning and summoned “Sunderblades,” capable of breaking through the toughest boss shields with the highest stagger power currently seen in the game.

Lung or Kylin?

For a long time, the community debated whether Zhuang Fangyi was a “Lung” (dragon) like the famous Sui siblings. However, she has been officially identified as a Kylin (formerly Kirin).

In Talosian lore, the Kylin are an ancient race characterized by draconic horns and equine-like tails, and they are legendary for their affinity for lightning arts. While she may look like a dragon, her identity as a Kylin ties her to a heritage of prosperity and storm-based power.

Conclusion

Zhuang Fangyi is a leader defined by balance—balancing the heavy crown of a Viceroy with the curiosity of a scientist, and the power of a thunder goddess with the heart of a mascot fan. As the Wuling arc reaches its climax, she remains the essential anchor for the civilization of Talos-II.
