ANDRE LORE: WHO PLUCKED HIS EYEBROWS?

Table of Contents
The Endministrator plucked Andre’s eyebrows, on Typhoeus’s instructions. Andre, Endfield’s owl-like chief engineer, dreamed that his boss, Director Qin, plucked out every brow feather. The feathers really were plucked: packed into a snowball, they opened a way into his dream.
The scene comes from Typhoeus’s story quest, A Winter Dream Fogged Deep in the Woods, but it only lands if you know Andre: a chief engineer who never gets lost, dreads his director, and gets called Big Owl by everyone. This is his whole story.
How we checked this. Everything below comes from Andre’s lines and the quest text in the official English localization, checked against the current game data on 8 October 2026. That includes the quest objectives and the in-game descriptions of the two quest items made from his feathers. Where we read between the lines, we say so.

TL;DR - Key Points
- The Endmin plucked them. Typhoeus’s dream-diving ritual needs the dreamer’s brow feathers, so the Endmin plucks Andre’s, packs them into a snowball and uses it to open a portal into his dream.
- Andre thought it was his boss. Asleep, he begs: “Director Qin, please stop, don’t make me brow-less…”
- He got lost first. His positioning device broke, he couldn’t find his handyterm, and he lost his baggage, then insisted “I never lose my way.”
- He fainted at a “ghost.” It was Typhoeus, who woke him with a remedy so bitter it “revives anyone. Unless they’re super dead.”
- Dream-eaters found him delicious. They feed on dreams, and “people with really weird ideas like Andre” are a feast.
- He is not big, just fluffy. His words, in his sleep.
- A few brow feathers survived. “I’m lucky I still got some brow feathers left. I’m still all good!”
Who Is Andre?

Andre is Endfield’s resident technical expert at the Valley IV Hub Base and the chief engineer of the Automated Industry Complex, the AIC Factory system you build with all game. Perlica introduces him that way in the opening chapter. He is an owl-like Liberi with round glasses, a beret and a pencil in his breast pocket, and he is a story character rather than a playable operator.
He is also the first person to tell you what you forgot. When the Endmin wakes, Andre is the one who has spent “ten years” on “the project you left behind,” and he is crushed to learn you do not remember it: “Why does suffering always happen to…” He has been guarding the TA-TA Prototype, a machine he says “a friend of mine left,” and his first worry when the Ankhor crashes into the base is how he would tell Yvonne if it broke.
The rest of his personality comes out fast:
- He is old and says so constantly. “Age is really catching up on me.” “My creaky bones won’t let me swing a weapon.” “My legs are giving out.”
- He gets carried away. When the PAC goes live he calls it “one small step for Endfield, but a meaningful leap for our civilization,” then stops himself: “I think I got ahead of myself.”
- He bends the rules for his projects. He spent his own money on “special equipment” for the Prototype rather than wait for the evaluation process. “Oh dear, if Qin learns of this, she’s going to have a really long talk with me…”
- He loves his lab. When Yvonne volunteers to redecorate it, he warns her he has used it “for nearly a decade” and can find everything “even with my eyes closed.” He comes back to the surprise she left and screams. Then he decides “this change of style … isn’t that bad. Really.”
Why Everyone Calls Him Big Owl
Chen Qianyu named him, and she cannot stop. “I’ll watch over the Big Owl, I mean … Mr. Andre.” When she finally calls him “Mr. Andre” on purpose, he is so surprised he says it has “got my feathers tingling and fluffed.” Other characters picked it up: one in-game line asks you to tell “the Big Owl” that he “owes an Old Panda his latest ideas” and should “stop hiding from me!”
He has an answer for the nickname, and he gives it in his sleep during the Snowy Forest quest:

“Who called me … Big Owl… I’m not big… I’m just fluffy!”
Andre and Director Qin
Director Qin Jiangchi is the director at the Hub Base, and Andre is afraid of her in the way people are afraid of a boss they like. His first question when he hears she wants him back at the Control Tower: “So … what was she like when she asked about me? Was she angry?” Perlica hesitates. “Oh dear… I’m finished.” A few lines later he is muttering about how to “delay the meeting with Director Qin.”
She is fond of him too, in her own way. “Stop puffing up your feathers, old man,” she tells him in front of the Crisis Team. One in-game anecdote has her finding him face-down on his workshop floor after he fell asleep there: “She thought Big Owl died of a heart attack and absolutely panicked. Let’s just say … it wasn’t a quiet morning.”
That matters for the eyebrow story, because Qin is the one who sends you to save him. The quest opens with “a plea from Director Qin” to search a forest outside Yinglung Pass, after Andre went missing on his way to Wuling.
Lost in the Snowy Forest

Andre was carrying parts the Wuling Tianshi needed. Close to Wuling, his positioning device broke. He tried to call for help, “but I just couldn’t find my handyterm.” He followed “questionable directions” from someone and ended up “going round and round in circles” for days, and then he lost his baggage too.
When the Endmin finds him, he asks for a second hug, then explains the situation:

“Endmin, I’m not puffing up my feathers but I am an Endfield engineer. My memory is impeccable. I never lose my way.”
He blames the forest instead. “My mental faculties are fine. It’s the forest itself.” For once he is right. Typhoeus later confirms the fog is a protective array set by a Sami Snowpriestess, a trap that walks visitors in circles.

He also has a memory he would rather not have. On a past trip with the Endmin to a Sami village, “I tried riding their special snow sled too. I ended up crashing head first into the snow. The Endmin had to dig me out.” When Typhoeus sounds doubtful, he says: “I can’t help it. I remember things too well.”
The Ghost and the Bitter Medicine
Stuck together in the fog, the Endmin cracks a joke to calm him down. It does not work. “My mind is a mess right now. I keep thinking about stories of ghosts and spirits.” Then a figure appears.

“A GHOST!!!” Andre passes out on the spot. The “ghost” was Typhoeus, a young archer, who had been stuck in the forest herself and says she sent the Endmin messages from inside the fog that nobody answered. The script never says outright that Andre mistook her for the ghost, but the scene leaves little doubt.

She woke him with a herbal remedy, and he spat it out (“What’s this bitter taste in my mouth?”). Later he asks whether it is a Sami medicine. Her answer is the funniest line in the quest:
“They’re a gift from a Hannabit Circuit Aldertone. They don’t treat anything. They’re just bitter. The Aldertone said this bitterness revives anyone. Unless they’re super dead.”
“I heard enough, Typh. I can taste that bitterness again.”
The Dream-Eaters
The three of them reach the Snowpriestess’s empty cabin, and Andre, who has not “rested my eyes for days,” turns down a seat: “I can actually rest while standing.” Typhoeus offers that “some Liberi can only sleep when hanging upside down.” They leave him asleep in the cabin.

The Snowpriestess’s ritual had been pulling things out of the dreamscape, and they are hungry. Typhoeus explains why Andre is in danger:
“The witchcraft spawn gets their energy by eating people’s dreams. People with really weird ideas like Andre … would be delicious to them.”
Andre walks out of the cabin in his sleep repeating “It’s calling me…”, and his sleep-talk through the rest of the quest is its best running gag: “AIC … power shortage…” “Brain cells … running low…” “When can I … have Mr. Da Pan’s food…” and, over and over, “Director Qin … stop plucking my eyebrows…” Typhoeus and the Endmin bring down all three ritual shrines, and he still does not wake. His consciousness is too deep in the dream.

Who Plucked Andre’s Eyebrows?

Typhoeus finds the answer in the Snowpriestess’s notes, the Scroll of Spirit Diving: “The dream diver’s brows can be used as the inducing agent to unite the powers of all three shrines. This will allow the seeker to dive straight to the depths of dreamscape.” Her plan has four steps: draw a rune array, place three dreamcatchers, “pluck the dreamer’s eyebrow, pack the hair up in snow, and place it in the array’s eye.”

The Endmin does the plucking. The quest’s objectives say it plainly: “Pluck Andre’s eyebrow,” then “Pack Andre’s brow feathers in snow.” Even the warnings are jokes. “Careful, Endmin. Andre’s face is covered in feathers. Don’t pluck the wrong ones.” The Endmin tries to be gentle and “hope he doesn’t feel the pain.” Andre, unconscious, squawks: “Director Qin, please stop, I’ll never do it again…” The Endmin’s verdict: “If I keep plucking he’ll be Andre the Brow-less.”

Both quest items have their own descriptions, and they are as rude as the scene:
- Andre’s Brow Feathers: “A handful of feathers plucked from Andre’s brows. They are a real mess, just like the wild and crazy ideas stored within his mind.”
- Feathers Packed in a Snowball: “A ball of snow packed with all sorts of feathers. The Liberi’s face is covered in all sorts of feathers. It is quite difficult to tell which of them are actually brow feathers.”
The snowball goes in the eye of the array, Typhoeus chants, and both of you are in the dreamscape. You find Andre’s soul curled up in the fog, weeping and pleading to go back. Hoofprints lead you to him, and Typhoeus believes they belong to Amma. We cover the dream itself in Typhoeus’s story breakdown.
The Nightmare, Explained

Andre wakes up sore, with “this painful itch” in his brows, and tells his rescuers about his nightmare:
“I dreamed that I couldn’t find my baggage anywhere… An angry and loud Director Qin came all the way here to pull out my brows… In the end, she pulled out all my brow feathers … all of them…”
Then he looks at the Endmin. “Endmin, you…?” It clicks: “So that’s why. Oh gosh. I’m lucky I still got some brow feathers left. I’m still all good!”

The nightmare started before anyone touched him: he was already mumbling “Director Qin … stop plucking my eyebrows…” while he sleepwalked toward the shrines. But the itch he woke up with was real, and so was the plucking. Only the plucker was wrong. His boss was never there, though she is the one who sent the person holding the tweezers.
After the Nightmare
He gets a happy ending. “Not hurting any more. Found the baggage too. Director Qin won’t show up in my dreams again.” His advice: “A stress-free mind is one that does not suffer from nightmares.” Before he leaves he thanks Typhoeus properly, because she used her precious arrows on a stranger. He finds the Snowpriestess’s warehouse, repairs it into a small workshop, and tells the Endmin it is the place to go if Typhoeus wants to modify her greatbow. He also gives her a machine that turns “things you gathered from the forest” into “all sorts of arrows,” as “a token of my gratitude.”
He promises to tell her adventure, “The Dream Adventure of Amma and Typhoeus,” to everyone once he reaches Wuling.
His Eyebrows Have History
This is not the first time someone came for Andre’s brows. Chen Qianyu’s HR file records that at an elite operator’s retirement party, Andre “snoozed on the sofa” while Chen, “surrounded by a crowd, trimmed the engineer’s eyebrows with a pair of scissors.” Both times he was asleep.
Andre’s Story in Order
- The project. For about ten years he works on the project the Endmin left behind, and he guards the TA-TA Prototype.
- The Ankhorfall. An Ankhor crashes into the Hub Base. He refuses to evacuate to protect the Prototype, and the Endmin finds him hurt in the Old Factory.
- The AIC Factory. He helps deploy the PAC and restart the base, and wakes TA-TA (“Are you there, my little buddy?”).
- The lab makeover. Yvonne redecorates his lab of nearly a decade while he and the Endmin fix a generator gangway.
- The delivery. On the way to Wuling with parts for the Tianshi, his positioning device breaks and he gets lost in the Snowy Forest outside Yinglung Pass.
- The rescue. Director Qin sends the Endmin. He faints at a “ghost,” meets Typhoeus and tastes the bitter remedy.
- The dream. Dream-eaters trap him in his sleep. The Endmin plucks his brow feathers for the ritual, and the snowball opens a way into his dream.
- The nightmare. He dreamed his boss plucked every brow feather. A few survived.
