Typhoeus has a signature weapon problem, and it is the good kind. Umbra of Frigid Eventide is measurably far ahead of everything else she can hold, the banner selling it has the most forgiving pity in the game, and it stays open longer than her own character banner. The only real question is whether you are the player it is worth tickets for.
Short answer: if Typhoeus is your main carry and her team is built, pull it. Everyone else can wait, because Deep Cold Issue outlives Winter Hunt and nothing about this decision is urgent.
TL;DR: Key Points
- The gap is 24 points. Signature at 100 percent of her personal damage, Suffering’s End at 76, Oblivion at 68, Detonation Unit at 63 (all P0, from our Typhoeus build guide testing).
- The pity is kind. 1,980 tickets per 10-pull, a 6-star every 4 attempts, and a guaranteed featured at 8 attempts through a one-time spark.
- Worst case costs 15,840 tickets. That is the 8-attempt spark ceiling. Most players land it earlier through the 25 percent featured rate.
- No deadline pressure. Deep Cold Issue ends after 3 headhunting banners starting from Winter Hunt, so it runs past September 30.
- F2P fallback is real. Suffering’s End comes from the Protocol Pass and keeps her a functional carry.
What the Weapon Actually Is
Umbra of Frigid Eventide is a 6-star Arts Unit forged around one fact: Typhoeus scales on Agility, and she is the first Arts Unit user in the game to do so. Its card carries three lines: Agility Boost, Attack Boost, and the Detonate weapon skill.
The skill, Hunter Instinct, reads as follows at max level:
- Base ATK 505, AGI plus 68, ATK plus 17.0 percent
- Arts damage dealt plus 26 percent
- After the wielder casts a Battle Skill: Arts Intensity plus 56 and 4 stacks of Windform for 15 seconds
- Applying an Arts Burst consumes one Windform stack to grant plus 6 percent Arts damage dealt for 30 seconds, stacking up to 4 times with each stack timed separately
Every clause maps onto something Typhoeus already does. She casts her Battle Skill to enter Hovering, she fires Bursts constantly through Hunting Arrows, and nothing else in the Arts Unit pool gives her Agility. That last point is structural: because it is the only Agility-main Arts Unit in the game, no alternative can match her main stat line by definition. Our build guide covers the full kit interaction; the takeaway here is that the signature is not a small optimization but the only weapon speaking her stat language.
The Damage Gap, Measured
Figures below are Typhoeus’s personal damage in a single-target rotation with the signature normalized to 100 percent. First figure at P0, second at P5, per our launch testing.
| Weapon | Rarity | Damage vs Signature | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| Umbra of Frigid Eventide | 6-star | 100% / 125% | Best in slot by a wide margin |
| Suffering’s End | 6-star | 76% / 83% | Protocol Pass weapon, best non-signature option |
| Oblivion | 6-star | 68% | Gives her nothing on the stat line, still beats Detonation Unit |
| Detonation Unit | 6-star | 63% | Not a viable stand-in |
Two readings that matter for the pull decision. First, the P0 gap between signature and pass weapon is 24 points, which is large for a single slot but not build-defining: a Suffering’s End Typhoeus still functions as a carry. Second, Detonation Unit is a trap purchase. It trails Oblivion even though Oblivion contributes nothing to her stats, because generic damage is exactly what her kit is starved of. If you were considering buying or chasing Detonation Unit as a budget signature, stop.
Amusing detail: Oblivion and Detonation Unit both sit in the Deep Cold Issue off-rate 6-star pool alongside the signature, Exemplar, Clannibal, Valiant, and Rapid Ascent. You could, in principle, lose the 25 percent and pull the trap weapon from the very banner you hoped would save you from it.
Deep Cold Issue Rules and Pity Math
The Arsenal Issue works nothing like the character banner, and every mistake players make with it comes from assuming it does.
| Rule | Detail |
|---|---|
| Cost | 1,980 Arsenal Tickets per attempt, 10-pull multis only |
| Floor | Every attempt guarantees a 5-star weapon or better |
| 6-star cadence | Every 4 attempts guarantee a 6-star, with a 25 percent featured rate |
| Spark | 8 attempts guarantee the featured weapon, triggers once, does not carry over |
| Duration | Opened Sep 2, ends after 3 Chartered Headhunting banners starting from Winter Hunt |
| Tickets source | Headhunting pulls: 2,000 per 6-star, 200 per 5-star, 20 per 4-star |
The ceiling is the simple number: 8 attempts times 1,980 equals 15,840 tickets for a guaranteed Umbra of Frigid Eventide. In practice you will usually pay less, since each 6-star has a one-in-four shot at being featured and you get roughly two 6-stars per 8 attempts. But budget the ceiling, not the average. Ticket income is lumpy, and averages do not pay sparks.
One comparison worth knowing: the Arsenal Exchange sells a chosen 6-star directly for 2,480 tickets, against 1,980 per Issue multi. Direct purchase lets you pick exactly what you want but the featured list rotates slowly, so a specific weapon can take a long time to appear. The Issue is the fast route to the signature; the Exchange is the patient route to everything else.
Who Should Pull, Who Should Skip
Pull it: the committed Typhoeus owner. You have her, you have Arcane or an equivalent Nature stack source, and she is your main carry. Our testing ranks the signature as the highest-value spend for exactly this account, ahead of chasing Potentials. See the Typhoeus teams guide to confirm your roster qualifies before spending.
Pull it later: the new Typhoeus owner still building. The banner outlasts Winter Hunt, so there is no reason to buy the weapon before the team around her exists. Farm Deep Rampart, settle her rotation in Trial of the Bow opening September 9, then come back with tickets.
Skip it: no Typhoeus, no plan to get her. An Agility Arts Unit has exactly one user. Never pull a signature for a character you do not own unless the off-rate pool is full of weapons you also want, and here it is not.
Skip it: the Yvonne saver. Yvonne’s RE-Factor banner and the Tag Artist Issue open September 24 with Artzy Tyrannical as the featured Handcannon. If your account pivots on that banner, every ticket belongs to it. Our RE-Factor explainer covers the new pity math, and the version calendar has the full September schedule.
F2P default: take Suffering’s End from the Protocol Pass. At 76 percent of signature damage it keeps her a real carry, it costs no tickets, and the signature remains a measured 24 point upgrade waiting for a future rerun rather than a requirement today.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Treating the Issue like the character banner. No 120-pull spark, no shared pity, single multis only. Learn the 8-attempt rule before touching it.
- Buying Detonation Unit as a substitute. It ranks last in testing. The pass weapon is the substitute.
- Spending your last tickets under deadline panic. There is no deadline. The Issue runs past September 30, so decide after Trial of the Bow, not during it.
- Pulling the weapon before the operator. Winter Hunt closes September 30 while Deep Cold Issue continues. Secure Typhoeus first if she is not yet yours; our pull verdict works through that decision.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Umbra of Frigid Eventide? Typhoeus’s signature 6-star Arts Unit from the Deep Cold Arsenal Issue. It carries Agility Boost, Attack Boost, and the Detonate skill, and it is the only Agility-main Arts Unit in the game.
How much better is Umbra of Frigid Eventide than Suffering’s End? In our launch testing, the signature sits at 100 percent of Typhoeus’s personal damage against 76 percent for the Protocol Pass weapon Suffering’s End at P0, a 24 point gap. Oblivion trails at 68 and Detonation Unit at 63.
How does the Deep Cold Issue pity work? Attempts are 10-pull multis costing 1,980 Arsenal Tickets each. Every attempt guarantees a 5-star or better, every 4 attempts guarantee a 6-star with a 25 percent featured rate, and 8 attempts guarantee the featured weapon through a one-time spark that does not carry over.
When does Deep Cold Issue end? It opened September 2 with Version 1.5 and ends after 3 Chartered Headhunting banners starting from Winter Hunt, so it outlasts Typhoeus’s own character banner, which closes September 30.
Should F2P players pull Umbra of Frigid Eventide? Usually not. Suffering’s End from the Protocol Pass is a genuine substitute at 76 percent of signature damage, and tickets are better saved unless Typhoeus is your main carry with her core team already built.
Is Detonation Unit a good substitute for the signature? No. It trails Oblivion in testing despite Oblivion giving Typhoeus nothing on its stat line, because her kit is starved of generic damage. Suffering’s End from the pass is the real fallback.
