Purrchena Build Guide: Free 5-Star Defender
Table of Contents

Purrchena is a free 5-star Physical Defender in a giant cat plush suit who fights with a dessert fork and throws presents at your enemies. She is also, on paper, the only Defender in the game who can hand your Arts carries a damage debuff.

Those two sentences are both true, and the gap between them is why she deserves a real build guide rather than a shrug. She arrives September 24, 2026 in Phase 2 of Version 1.5, free, at max potential, alongside a max-potential 5-star sword. Nothing to pull, nothing to gamble on.

Purrchena key art, a 5-star Physical Defender in an oversized white and grey feline plush suit with a red scarf

Her exact numbers do not exist yet, and her main and secondary attributes are both still listed as TBD. Everything below is built on her confirmed kit text, her weapon card, and what the existing roster data says about a Defender holding a Sword. Where something is a guess, I say so.

TL;DR

  • She is free and she arrives at max potential. The Purry Big Feline! RAWR! event also gives you the 5-star sword Dessert Moment at max potential. No pulls involved.
  • She is the first Sword Defender in the game. Ember, Snowshine and Catcher all use Great Swords at 3.0m. Her weapon pool is not theirs.
  • Her Ultimate can apply Arts Susceptibility. No other Defender does that. It is the single best reason to gear her.
  • Eternal Xiranite is her set. It pays out when the wearer applies Protected or Susceptibility, and she applies both from two separate skills.
  • Her Combo Skill is reactive, not scheduled. It fires when your controlled operator gets hit, which means her healing shows up when you are actually in trouble.
  • Her recast Battle Skill applies Nature Infliction for free. That makes her a budget enabler for Nature carries, Typhoeus included.
  • Randomness is the real cost. Two of three Combo gifts do not heal, and the Arts Susceptibility effect is only a chance on the Ultimate.
  • Build her even if you own a 6-star Defender. Free max potential plus a unique team debuff beats a bench slot.

Who Purrchena is, and the Sword thing

Start with the detail everyone will skim past. Her weapon type is Sword.

Every Defender currently in the game uses a Great Sword and sits at 3.0m range: Ember, Snowshine and Catcher, all three of them, all Strength-main. Purrchena breaks that pattern. She is the first Sword Defender, which means the weapon you put on her comes from an entirely different pool than the one you have been farming for your other tanks. If you were expecting to hand her a spare Great Sword, you cannot.

That matters less than it would for a gacha unit, because her best weapon is free and arrives with her. More on that below.

The rest of her profile: 5-star, Physical element, Defender class, Feline, affiliated with the Talos-II General Chamber of Commerce. Her main and secondary attributes are both TBD, though her signature sword boosts Strength, which lines up with every other Defender on the roster.

In story terms she has Ætherside Syndrome, which makes her fall asleep without warning. The plush suit is a consequence of the condition. Through her family’s care and her own effort she became Brand Ambassador for the Ætherside Syndrome Relief Foundation, and she came to Endfield Industries on the Chamber of Commerce’s recommendation. Her whole kit is written in shouted capitals, and it is one of the more charming designs the game has shipped. The 1.5 preview program recap has the wider patch context.

What she actually does

Three jobs, and they are unusually well separated for a 5-star.

She blocks and grants Protection. Her Battle Skill raises a shield for herself and nearby operators, making them harder to interrupt.

She heals reactively. Her Combo Skill triggers when the operator you are controlling takes a hit, not on a timer you manage.

She debuffs. Her Ultimate can apply Arts Susceptibility, which is the part that turns her from a free body into a team piece.

That third one is worth sitting with. Arts Susceptibility on a free 5-star Defender is a support effect wearing a tank’s clothes. It is also the thing that makes her worth gear you could have spent elsewhere.

Purrchena’s kit, skill by skill

Skill names come from the 1.5 preview program. The mechanical text is confirmed; the numbers are not.

Basic attack: DESSERT! HAVE SOME!

Up to three attack sequences dealing Physical damage. Filler. You will rarely be the one controlling her.

Battle skill: I’M NOT SLEEPING!

She raises her shield to block attacks and grants Protection to herself and nearby operators, making them harder to interrupt. The first successful block extends the skill’s duration and returns SP. If she keeps blocking, the Protection effect gradually erodes. After a set period she can cast the skill again with no SP cost, dealing Nature damage and applying Nature Infliction.

Purrchena raising her shield to block an attack and granting Protection to nearby operators

Read that carefully, because there are two separate payoffs buried in it. The first block returning SP means she is partly self-funding, and it also triggers a gear set effect I will get to. The free recast applying Nature Infliction means she contributes elemental setup without spending resources, which is not something a Defender usually does.

The erosion clause is the one to respect. Holding the block against a long enemy chain does not make the Protection last longer, it wears it down. Block the thing that matters, then get out.

Combo skill: CAKE OR “PREZZIE”

Triggers when the controlled operator is attacked. She tosses a Giftbox to them that heals, then reveals one additional random gift.

Purrchena tossing a Giftbox to the controlled operator to heal them

Gift Effect
Bomb Physical damage plus additional Stagger to enemies
Handicraft Continuously pulls nearby enemies in while dealing Physical damage
Yummy Dessert Continuously heals the controlled operator

The Bomb gift detonating for Physical damage and extra Stagger

The Handicraft gift continuously pulling nearby enemies together

The Yummy Dessert gift continuously healing the controlled operator

A reactive combo skill is genuinely good design. You do not have to predict damage, you get healed when damage happens. The trade is that only one of the three extra gifts heals, so her sustain output has a floor you cannot control. The Handicraft pull is quietly the best roll in most content, because grouping enemies is worth more than a second heal when your carry does area damage.

Ultimate: NAUGHTY IS BANNED!

She opens three gifts at once, each randomly a Bomb or a Handicraft. One of them has a chance to be the Ambassador’s Special, which applies Arts Susceptibility to enemies hit.

Purrchena’s ultimate opening three gifts at once with a chance at the Ambassador’s Special

Three simultaneous Bombs or Handicrafts is real area pressure and real Stagger from a free unit. The Arts Susceptibility chance is the ceiling. When it lands, your Arts carry hits harder for the window. When it does not, you still got three gifts of damage and grouping.

I would like to tell you the exact proc rate. Nobody can yet, and any guide that gives you a number for it right now is making it up.

Best weapon

Dessert Moment, and the decision is easy because it is free.

The Dessert Moment 5-star sword card showing Strength Boost, Treatment Efficiency Boost and Medicant lines

The card lists three lines: Strength Boost, Treatment Efficiency Boost, and the Medicant weapon skill. The event text on the card says it plainly: complete the Purry Big Feline! RAWR! event to get Dessert Moment at max potential.

That combination is well matched to her. Strength is the attribute every Defender on the roster scales on. Treatment Efficiency scales the Combo Skill healing, which is her most frequent contribution. And Medicant is the same weapon skill line carried by Chivalric Virtues and Freedom to Proselytize, the two Arts Units the game hands to dedicated healers, which tells you what the designers think her job is.

Weapon Rarity Lines Verdict
Dessert Moment 5-star Strength, Treatment Efficiency, Medicant Best in slot, free, max potential. Use it.
Finchaser 3.0 5-star Strength main, Cryo DMG / Suppression The only other Strength-main Sword in the game. A fallback if you somehow miss the event.
Eminent Repute 6-star Physical DMG / Brutality If you want her doing real Physical damage rather than supporting. Overkill on a free unit.
Sundering Steel 5-star Agility main, Physical DMG / Combative Only if her attributes come back Agility rather than Strength. Wait for confirmation.

The honest summary: take the free sword, put it on her, stop thinking about weapons. Every Oroberyl and every upgrade material you would spend chasing a marginal alternative is better spent on her gear.

Best gear sets

This is where she gets interesting, and the answer is unusually clear-cut for a free unit.

Gear set Set effect Why it fits Purrchena
Eternal Xiranite HP +1000; team damage +16% after the wearer applies Amp, Protected, Susceptibility or Weakened She applies Protected with her Battle Skill and Susceptibility with her Ultimate. Two separate skills hitting the same trigger, and HP +1000 is exactly what a Defender wants anyway.
Frontiers Combo Skill CDR +15%; team damage +16% after the wearer recovers SP Her Battle Skill returns SP on the first successful block, which triggers the team buff directly, and the Combo Skill cooldown reduction tightens her reactive healing.
LYNX Treatment Efficiency +20%; on heal, the target gains 15% damage reduction Scales her Giftbox healing and staples damage reduction onto every heal. Pairs naturally with Dessert Moment’s Treatment Efficiency line.
AIC Fieldwork All damage types +20%, damage reduction +10%, Ultimate Gain Efficiency +10% No conditional trigger to miss, and faster Ultimate cycling means more rolls at the Arts Susceptibility effect.
Swordmancer Stagger Efficiency bonus, plus a Physical hit on applying Physical Status Her Bomb gifts deal additional Stagger, so this is the build if you want her contributing to stagger breaks.

Eternal Xiranite is the pick, and the reasoning is not vibes. Snowshine and Ember already run it precisely because their kits apply Protection, and Avywenna runs it as a niche option because she self-applies Arts Susceptibility. Purrchena does both, from two different buttons. As far as I can tell she would be the only operator in the game hitting that trigger from two independent kit sources, which means the team damage buff should be up more reliably on her than on anyone currently carrying the set.

One planning warning. Only fifteen of the twenty-three named sets have real level-70 T4 pieces. AIC Heavy, AIC Light, Armored MSGR, Mordvolt Resistant, Aburrey’s Legacy, Catastrophe, Mordvolt Insulation and Roving MSGR are T3 only. AIC Heavy and Mordvolt Resistant both read like obvious Defender and healer sets, and both are dead ends. Do not plan a Purrchena build around them. Our gear priority guide and the gear sets database have the rest.

Stat and essence priority

Her attributes are officially TBD, so this is direction rather than a shopping list.

  1. Assume Strength, but do not commit essences yet. Dessert Moment boosts Strength and all three existing Defenders are Strength-main. It is a safe assumption and still an assumption.
  2. HP is never wrong on her. She is a Defender who wants to survive blocks, and Eternal Xiranite already stacks HP.
  3. Treatment Efficiency is her most reliable output. The Combo Skill fires every time your carry gets hit. The Ultimate debuff is a chance. Scale the thing that always happens.
  4. Ultimate Gain Efficiency is worth more on her than on most tanks. Every Ultimate is another roll at Arts Susceptibility.
  5. Skip crit entirely. Nothing in her confirmed kit scales off it.

Our essence guide covers the triple-slot rules, and the artificing planner will tell you what you can actually afford.

Who Purrchena enables

She is a support piece, so build teams around what she gives rather than what she deals.

Arts carry escort

Purrchena . any Arts carry . a second applicator . a healer

The Arts Susceptibility on her Ultimate is the whole point. Any Arts-damage carry benefits, and because she is free and max potential you can slot her into a comp you already run without spending a pull. Eternal Xiranite stacks a second team damage buff on top whenever she shields or debuffs.

Nature infliction budget shell

Purrchena . Typhoeus . Ardelia . flex

This is the timing that makes her genuinely useful. Her recast Battle Skill applies Nature Infliction for free, and Typhoeus consumes Nature Infliction for bonus Signs. Purrchena lands three weeks after Typhoeus, which means anyone who pulled Typhoeus in Phase 1 gets a free Nature applicator in Phase 2. Our Typhoeus build guide explains why that dependency matters so much to her rotation, and our Typhoeus pairing guide ranks Purrchena against the other Nature applicators competing for that slot.

Physical stagger team

Purrchena . a Physical carry . Chen Qianyu . flex

Her Bomb gifts add Stagger and her Handicraft gifts group enemies. On Swordmancer she becomes a genuine contributor to stagger breaks rather than a passenger. This is the build for players who want her doing something while the carry sets up.

Early-account frontline

Purrchena . Endministrator . any applicator . any healer

For a new or returning account, a free max-potential Defender with a free max-potential weapon is a large amount of power for zero investment. She will hold a line and heal reactively long before you can afford a 6-star Defender.

How to build her by player type

  • The new player. Do the event, take her and the sword, and put whatever three-piece set you can actually make on her. She is a genuine account upgrade at zero cost.
  • The established player with a 6-star Defender. Build her anyway, but build her as a support: Eternal Xiranite, Treatment Efficiency, Ultimate Gain. You are gearing the Arts Susceptibility and the team damage buff, not the tanking.
  • The Typhoeus owner. She is your free Nature applicator. That alone justifies a full gear set.
  • The completionist. Eternal Xiranite first, then a second Frontiers or Swordmancer build to compare once the proc rates are measurable.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Benching her because she is a 5-star. Free max potential plus a unique team debuff is not a bench unit.
  • Holding the block for as long as possible. Continued blocking erodes the Protection. Block what matters, then release.
  • Forgetting the free Battle Skill recast. The second activation costs no SP and applies Nature Infliction. Skipping it throws away her elemental contribution.
  • Treating the Combo Skill as a heal button. It fires when your controlled operator is attacked, so you do not choose the timing.
  • Building her for Physical damage. She has three ways to help the team and one way to deal damage. Gear the three.
  • Chasing AIC Heavy or Mordvolt Resistant. Both look like Defender sets and both are T3 only.

What would change this guide

  1. Her confirmed attributes. Strength is an assumption drawn from her weapon and from every other Defender.
  2. The Arts Susceptibility proc rate. If the Ambassador’s Special is rare, her ceiling drops a lot. If it is common, she is the best free support the game has released.
  3. Whether the gift rolls are weighted. Three equal-probability Combo gifts and three weighted ones are very different units.
  4. Protection erosion numbers. How fast the shield decays decides whether she is a real blocker or a burst shielder.
  5. Whether her Nature Infliction application is strong enough for Typhoeus. A single weak application may not be enough to matter.

We will update this guide once she is playable.

Final verdict

Purrchena is the most quietly useful free unit Endfield has handed out. Not because she tanks well, though she probably does, but because a Defender who applies Arts Susceptibility and Protection and Nature Infliction is doing three support jobs from a slot that usually does one.

The randomness is a real cost and I am not going to pretend otherwise. You cannot script her, and roughly a third of her Combo gifts are the one you wanted. But she costs nothing, she comes at max potential with a max-potential weapon, and the gear that fits her best happens to be a set the roster has been short of good carriers for.

Do the event. Take the sword. Put Eternal Xiranite on her and stop worrying about whether a free 5-star deserves it.
